Heated Rivalry is still living rent free in our minds, but Hudson Williams is already onto the next project. The breakout star, who won audiences over as Shane Hollander in Crave’s queer hockey romance drama, is re-partnering with the network for a new series, Yaga. Here's what we know about his pivot from the ice rink to a world of contemporary folklore.
What is it about?
Yaga draws inspiration from the myth of Baba Yaga — the enigmatic witch of Slavic folklore, often portrayed as both fearsome and ambiguous in her morality. Judging from early reports, the series will transport this story to a contemporary setting in which Williams plays Henry Park, the young heir to a powerful fishery empire whose sudden vanishing sets the story in motion. Then, as a private investigator digs into the case, he finds himself entangled in a web of guarded locals, secret relationships and whispers of something far older — and darker — at play.
Who is involved?
Williams joins an impressive cast led by Carrie-Anne Moss, best known for her role in The Matrix, alongside Noah Reid and Clark Backo. Reid plays the private investigator and Backo will play a local detective, while Moss is "a charismatic university professor with a taste for younger men."an apprehensive local detective
Behind the scenes, Kat Sandler leads the creative vision, with David Frazee and Rachel Talalay co-directing.
The spotlight has remained firmly on Williams following the success of Heated Rivalry, which has built a devoted fan base worldwide. Yaga isn't the only upcoming project on his busy schedule, either. In addition to walking the runway for DSquard2 and being named a face of Balenciaga, He’s also set to appear in Netflix’s upcoming FTX drama The Altruists. His co-star Connor Storrie is also booked and busy, with reports swirling that he's landed a role in Molly Gordon's Peaked with A24.
When does it come out?
An official release date has yet to be confirmed, but production is underway, with the series set to roll out on Crave in Canada. When it does get released, we can expect the series to take the format of four, one-hour episodes.
