Whilst the year is not out, Mia Goth and Zach Galifianakis may just be the collab we didn’t know we needed. The two have been killing it in their respective lanes this year, with Goth currently promoting Guillermo Del Toro’s Frankenstein, and Galifianakis in Disney’s Lilo & Stitch. Now, they're joining forces for a slightly different project: Hey Bear, a brand-new revenge comedy.
The film marks Jonathan Krisel’s directorial debut – the director who you might remember from Portlandia. Carrie Kemper (best known for the Netflix series Beef) has scripted the film, alongside Danica Radovanov and Alix Madigan (Winter’s Bone), who have jumped on board as executive producers. The film is grounded in themes of grief, rage and ultimately revenge. Read on for the finer details of the plot.

What is the film about?
Although we are still wrapping our heads around the plot, what we know so far is that the central narrative will follow Claire (played by Goth), who seeks revenge on the bear that ate her husband. We repeat, we are still making complete sense of the synopsis, but we put our complete trust in Krisel.
Rewinding just a little, Claire has been supportive of her husband’s bear-studying pursuits at the Glacier National Park – even if it means spending months away from him at a time. On one particular excursion, Claire’s husband Gregory (played by Dan Stevens) comes head-to-head with a grizzly bear, and the result is grim. To hunt down the bear and seek revenge, Claire teams up with socially-awkward park ranger Putt (you guessed it, played Zach Galifianakis), who we later find out has his own (questionable) motivations in the mission.

When will it be released?
Whilst official release dates haven’t yet been confirmed, we are keeping our eyes and ears peeled – we’ll circle back when we know more.
HanWay Films are handling international sales, and WME Independent and UTA Independent Film Group are representing North America. CEO of HanWay Films, Gabrielle Stewart, stated, “There is nothing more thrilling than coming across a project that breaks barriers in terms of originality. As absurd and crazy as the premise of this story is, you always fully connect and empathise with Clarie’s journey as she figures out how, out of grief, to retake ownership of her life. Mia Goth, Dan Stevens, and Zach Galifianakis are the dream team to make us laugh, feel, and gasp with shock and horror.”
