‘RUSSH’ spends a night in Melbourne with Gucci and Jannik Sinner

Melbourne really comes into its own in January. The air is warmer, the evenings stretch longer, and the Australian Open casts a particular energy across the city — one confined not just to the courts themselves, but that spills into the streets. It was against this backdrop that Gucci hosted an intimate private dinner at Reine & La Rue, welcoming tennis player and Global Brand Ambassador Jannik Sinner ahead of the Australian Open 2026.

Set within the softly lit interiors of the heritage-listed venue, the evening was elegantly understated — a counterpoint to the intensity of Grand Slam season. For RUSSH Editor in Chief Jess Blanch, attending the dinner offered a rare moment of stillness amid January's buzz. The atmosphere was warm and unhurried, with conversation floating easily from sport to fashion and back again, as guests settled into the intimate dining room.

Although he would soon be battling it out for yet another Australian Open title, Sinner arrived relaxed and at ease, visibly enjoying his time in Melbourne as he prepared for the tournament ahead. He'd swapped his typical activewear for something a little more evening appropriate, in a head-to-toe monochrome Gucci look. Joining Sinner was a host of local talent — among them, Bambi Northwood-Blyth, Natasha Liu Bordizzo, Keiynan Lonsdale, Olivia DeJonge, Peter Bol and Kylah Day. Their looks (all from the Gucci La Famiglia collection) mirrored the mood of the night, favouring elegant individuality and ease.

As Melbourne continues to host the world during the Australian Open, Gucci’s dinner captured both the excitement and the ease of the season. Amid the city’s heightened energy and anticipation, the evening at Reine & La Rue became a moment of connection, presence and appreciation for the beauty of summer in Melbourne.
