We’re gnawing at our bars – Gracie Abrams has confirmed the first single from her third album

Contrary to the name of her second studio album, it's no secret that the RUSSH team are huge fans of Miss Gracie Abrams. That's why, when the singer debuted an unreleased track at Glastonbury last year, we were first to speculate: could a new album be en route? Yep, amid dancing on Paul Mescal's shoulders and being hand-picked for the 'Apple dance' in Charli XCX's set, the singer had time to tease a new track during her headlining set.

But now – things are getting even more serious. The singer has confirmed the first single from the upcoming project is en route. In honour of this news, we're separating fact from fiction, to uncover exactly when Gracie Abrams' third album will arrive. Here's what we know.

The first single is called 'Hit the Wall'

Abrams confirmed it herself on Instagram, as well as the release date: May 14 at 5pm PST (which is 10am May 15 AEST).

The image she shared shows Abrams standing in front of a burning flame, and she simply wrote, "I love it with everything I have."

We've also had a first listen of GA3

This time, we were treated to a 10-second reel of Abrams opening her phone and pressing play on what sounds like an unreleased track from the upcoming project. With only about four seconds of audio to go off, there’s still plenty left to the imagination. And judging by the comment secant, fans are practically gnawing at the bars for her to release the full clip. Still, one thing feels clear, that GA3 must be right around the corner…

Abrams posted a snippet of her songwriting journal

The singer took to her personal Instagram account recently to share a photo of her leather-bound journal, emblazoned with a handwritten and circled number 'three' (of course, referencing her upcoming third album). The insinuation, of course (and especially with no accompanying caption) is that Abrams has finished writing the album (enclosed in the diary) and that her new project is imminent.

Even more interestingly is the witch sticker that also lives on the journal's cover. Abrams is no stranger to an easter egg (being a self-professed "Tay-daughter" herself), so we think the inclusion of such an addition is no coincidence. Could this mean that the album is called Witch, or thematically encapsulates some sort of magical, mystical, feminine energy? We're convinced this is pretty likely.

She's been in the studio a bunch

But this also isn't the first hint we've received about the arrival of GA3 via Instagram. In particular, shots from the studio in a nondescript snowy location with collaborators Aaron Dessner and Bella Blasko. Yep, the same duo who worked on her last album. The most recent shot is captioned "I wanna say", which has us thinking: could that be a song title? Or perhaps just a hint that, as always, Abrams has a lot to get off her chest in whatever music is coming next?

She performed an unreleased track at Glastonbury

Her Glastonbury performance was another fire-starter for new album rumours. Amid performing hits from The Secret Of Us, Abrams took a welcome detour and performed a moody, so-far unreleased track. It doesn't yet have a name, but fans are speculating the song is called Out Of Nowhere, and could be about boyfriend Paul Mescal. You can see the performance for yourself here:

What will it sound like?

Obviously we won't know exactly what GA3 sounds like until it's actually here. But from the five second snippet we did hear on Abrams most recent post, it sounds a little more fast pace to what The Secret of Us was. But we receive the album in full, Abrams has given us more hints. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, she said, "I’m just very proud. It’s definitely my favourite music I’ve ever made, and I feel very closely connected to it. I appreciate so much that these albums are time capsules of where I’m at in my life at any given point, but right now it does feel very like me. I hope that whoever finds it, connects with it and that they make it theirs when it’s out one day. But not yet."

When will it be released?

At this stage, it's all speculation, but if the recent journal shot and video on her Instagram were hints, it looks like the album could be complete.

It would also follow Abrams' release schedule so far. In February 2023, she launched her debut album, Good Riddance, and in June 2024, she released The Secret Of Us. Then, in October 2024, she treated us to The Secret Of Us (Deluxe Version).

Abrams herself has also been vocal about her plans to be in the studio in the early months of last year. In an interview with Nylon in late 2024, she said her plans for January 2025 were "chilling" and "writing a lot." In the same interview, she went on to reveal that she was already writing and recording with producer Aaron Dessner at Electric Lady Studios. "I am inspired by Taylor [Swift] in a million ways, but especially by the pace with which she puts things out into the world. There’s less pressure the more you release — that’s how I consider it for myself. I want to just keep it coming while I’m in this period of writing as frequently as I am. I think it would be a waste to not be open.”

Sounds like Abrams isn't waiting around for any anticipation to build up – and is keen to keep the music rolling.
