It's no secret that the stark minimalism that trended through the early parts of the 21st century is winding back. Dark woods are reemerging, colour is making a splash and bold moods like those of the 70s and 80s are quietly coming back into fashion.
A somewhat unexpected twist on the maximalist renaissance is the desire for dark and gothic-inspired design. 2025's Pinterest Trend Report showed searches for vampy and gothic-inspired aesthetics all increased significantly. Think terms like "masquerade decor" (40 per cent increase), "Carmilla aesthetic" (60 per cent increase), "maximalist accessories" (105 per cent increase, "antique bar cart" (100 per cent increase) and "poet aesthetic" (175 per cent increase).
Undeniably, films like 'Wuthering Heights' are also propelling further interest in a darker and moodier aesthetic. The film has already had an impact on fashion, spiking interest in corsets and Victorian/regencycore style. Now, we can feel it trickling through to our interiors.
