Maya Hawke is entering her dramatic era with Netflix’s ‘The God of the Woods’

Stranger Things might have wrapped, but Maya Hawke is booked and busy. Not only is she starring opposite Lewis Pullman (and Jake Shane) in Wishful Thinking, but she's now attached to a brooding new drama headed to Netflix.

Titled The God Of The Woods, it's a television adaptation of Liz Moore's New York Times bestselling novel by the same name. Here's everything we know so far.

Who is involved in God of the Woods?

At the centre is, of course, Maya Hawke, who will star as Judy Luptack, a formidable investigator navigating a male-dominated system. It should show a fairly different side to what we've seen from Hawke before, with her best-known roles including Jo in Little Women, Eleanor in Do Revenge and, of course, Robin in Stranger Things.

As we know, the series itself is adapted from The God of the Woods by Liz Moore, with Moore also serving as co-showrunner alongside Liz Hannah, whose past work includes Mindhunter and The Girl from Plainville.

What is it about?

Set against the dense backdrop of the Adirondacks (a mountain range in America), The God of the Woods is a slow-burn mystery, with the unravelling of a powerful family at the centre of the narrative.

When 13-year-old Barbara Van Laar disappears from her family’s summer camp, the case sends shockwaves through a community already haunted by an earlier tragedy. Then, as Judy Luptack begins her investigation, long-held secrets begin to surface, tied to the wealth and influence of one family in particular.

As anyone who has read the book will know, the story moves between past and present, and traces fractures within the Van Laar dynasty.

When will it come out?

An official release date hasn’t been confirmed just yet, but with the project newly announced and still in development, The God of the Woods is likely to arrive on Netflix in 2027.

In the meantime, we'll be patiently waiting for Wishful Thinking to hit cinemas...
