The world feels quieter today. Giorgio Armani, the man who taught us that power could whisper, not shout, has passed away at 91. With him goes not just a designer, but an architect of elegance, a man who reshaped the way we dress and, more importantly, the way we see ourselves.
Milan, September 4th, 2025 – With infinite sorrow, the Armani Group announced the passing of its creator, founder, and tireless driving force: Giorgio Armani. Il Signor Armani, as he was respectfully and admiringly called by his employees and collaborators, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones. Indefatigable to the end, he worked until his final days, dedicating himself to the company, the collections, and the many ongoing and future projects.
Armani built his universe out of restraint. In a world dazzled by excess, he pared it back – softening the shoulders of a suit, turning tailoring into fluid poetry. He understood that confidence didn’t need decoration. That true allure comes from the spaces in between, the breath, the pause. From Milan to Hollywood, his vision slipped easily into the everyday and onto the silver screen. Who hasn’t seen an Armani suit and felt its quiet authority?
Over the years, Giorgio Armani’s vision expanded beyond fashion, touching every aspect of life with extraordinary clarity and pragmatism. Driven by relentless curiosity and a deep attention to people, he became not only a designer but also a beloved figure for his ability to connect with everyone. Always mindful of the needs of his community, he gave tirelessly to his beloved Milan, ensuring that elegance was never separate from responsibility.
This year, 2025, marked 50 years since he first stitched his name into fashion’s vocabulary. Half a century of unwavering clarity – celebrated through archives, exhibitions, and the shared memories of those who wore his clothes like armour and like skin. Armani at 50 was not nostalgia, but a reminder: style is eternal, moving seamlessly through decades and generations without ever losing its pulse.
Now, as we mark his passing, we can’t help but think of the timelessness he offered us. He dressed women not to be looked at, but to look back. He made men feel effortless, stripped of pretense, closer to their truest selves. He designed for the moments in life when the outside needed to match the inside – strength, vulnerability, freedom, desire.
Giorgio Armani is a company with fifty years of history, built with emotion and patience, and it remains a reflection of his independence of thought and action. “In this company, we have always felt like part of a family,” his employees and family shared. “Today, with deep emotion, we feel the void left by the one who founded and nurtured this family with vision, passion, and dedication. But it is precisely in his spirit that we commit to protecting what he built and to carrying his company forward in his memory, with respect, responsibility, and love.”
Armani leaves us with more than a wardrobe; he leaves us with a way of being. A belief in simplicity, in integrity, in beauty stripped bare. At 91, he exits the stage as gracefully as he lived upon it. And we, draped in his legacy, carry the elegance forward, learning still that silence, too, can speak volumes.
The funeral chamber will be open to the public from Saturday, September 6th, to Sunday, September 7th, at the Armani/Teatro in Milan. In accordance with Mr. Armani’s wishes, the funeral will be held privately.
