Brazilian icon Fernanda Torres is returning to the screen — this time with a script of her own. Her new film, Os Corretores (which translates to The Brokers), is set to begin production by the end of 2025, with Torres not only starring in the lead role but also penning the screenplay.
International audiences will remember her as Eunice Paiva in I’m Still Here, the performance that made her the first Brazilian to win a Golden Globe for Best Actress, and earned her an Oscar nomination earlier this year. So, will Os Corretores receive similar claim? Everything we know so far, below.
What is Os Corretores about?
For now, details on the film's plot are fairly scant. We do know, however, that Os Corretores is being billed as a tragicomedy set in the world of real estate, the film follows a couple of agents navigating both personal and professional tensions. Torres will play the female lead; the male role is yet to be cast.
Who else is involved?
Behind the camera is Andrucha Waddington (House of Sand), Torres’ husband and frequent collaborator. In fact, in2005, Waddington co-wrote and directed Torres and her mother, actress Fernanda Montenegro, in House Of Sand, a film that went on to win the the prestigious Alfred P. Sloan Feature Film Prize in 2006.

The film is being produced by Conspiraçao and co-produced by Globo Filmes, with an official announcement set to take place at this year’s Rio2C creativity conference in Rio de Janeiro.
And in addition to acting, Torres has also penned the screenplay for the project, though it's not the first time she's proven herself adept at writing. In addition to her decades-long acting career, she’s written for newspapers, published two novels, and adapted her debut book, The End, into a ten-episode series for Globoplay. In 2016, she also wrote the script for the feature film O Juízo.
When will Os Corretores premiere?
Production on Os Corretores is slated to begin by the end of 2025, with no official premiere date announced just yet. If timelines hold, a 2026 release seems likely, though whether it debuts in cinemas or on streaming remains to be seen.
