The ‘Euphoria’ theories we can’t get enough of, ahead of the shows finale

Ok folks, just like the cast of Euphoria, we're almost free of the show. Oh no, don’t be sad – I’m sure we’ll have plenty of cast reunions down the line...

But for more serious discussion, we have one episode left of the show, and we also have high hopes. While we all crave closure and a happy ending, we have to be a bit more realistic here. After the penultimate episode of season three, we saw a lot. And if you haven’t seen that episode yet, please stop reading now, as there will be spoilers.

Nate Jacobs finally met his end, but not before giving us a little gun show while tied up. We think we got confirmation that Angel had passed away, and, even worse, that Alamo was organ farming, while Maddy Perez now also carries a debt to him. And Rue Bennett? Well, she’s stuck in the basement after Faye betrays her. It’s messy. And we have some questions, naturally.

And it seems the internet does too. With one week to go until we hopefully get proper answers to some of these mysteries, fans have also been sleuthing and piecing together the puzzle.

Below, are all the questions we hope get answered in the Euphoria finale, plus the most compelling fan theories – the kind that make you question whether you, too, are reading way too much into every microscopic detail of the show. Or maybe you’re actually onto something...

1. Rue Bennett is a private detective

Reading this theory, it actually makes perfect sense. A popular theory on reddit, is the show will end with Rue being a detective.  And the signs have been there since the pilot episode. Rue Bennett has always narrated the story with her hindsight and detail, as if retelling events after surviving them rather than living through them in real time. And we think season three may finally explain why. When Rue says, “And that’s how I became a snitch” at the start of season three, it could reveal her full transformation after relapsing, getting pulled into Laurie and Alamo’s criminal world, becoming trapped in trafficking operations, and eventually working with the DEA to expose them from the inside.

If this was correct, the entire series is Rue looking back on how she survived addiction, organised crime, and federal investigations. It would explain why she narrates everyone with such investigative-level insight throughout the show. The irony is that Rue spends the whole series running from authority and consequences, only to eventually become part of the system that takes Laurie and Alamo down.

2. The final shot is Ali writing Rue Bennet in his death book

A complete opposite theory from the one above. But this one makes sense too with the episode we just got served. In this theory, Rue will pass away. In the sneak peek for the next episode we see Rue in her late dad's hoodie in her childhood messy bedroom. The way she walked out of her bedroom seemed similar to a scene in season two when she walked out of the church while high.

With a lot of symbolic references from Rue to Moses, Ali reminds her that Moses never got to the promise land. Maybe making Rue realise she will never be free from the life she's lived. The final scenes will play out with her coming home to life a life of redemption, only to then cut to the final scene of Ali writing Rue's name in his death book.

3. Cassie and Maddy get stuck with Alamo

This theory is not the happy ending for Cassie and Maddy sadly. Cassie’s downfall seems almost inevitable now. After deleting her Only Fans account right when Naz comes collecting the debt, she cuts off her only real source of income and that ends up sealing Nate’s fate too. At the same time, Maddy gets dragged deeper into the mess after Cassie’s actions jeopardise her agency job and ties to LA Nights. Meanwhile, Alamo survives the DEA pressure and starts targeting anyone connected to Rue. To save herself, Maddy may strike a deal with Alamo, handing Cassie over in exchange for protection.

The theory ends with Cassie trapped working at the Silver Slipper under Alamo’s control, while Maddy becomes a reluctant part of the operation too. Cassie is forced into it under threats against Lexi, leaving both girls stuck in a cycle they can’t escape. The finale could mirror Cassie dissociating while performing at the club, imagining herself back at season one, as reality and fantasy cut together.

4. Jules' sugar daddy, isn't so sweet

If all webs and strings must be tied, this theory could make sense too. Jules' sugar daddy who is a surgeon and also has a family, is the surgeon who illegally operates on Alamo's girls. If he hides a big secret like having a mistress, perhaps he has some bigger secrets. And this would be how Jules story line tied into the finale. As discussed previously this season, Jules will ask the surgeon for a procedure, which during the police will raid the surgery that will ultimately end in a shootout and Jules will get stuck in the crossfire with Rue as a witness.

5. It was all just a performance

Now, this theory might make some people upset. The one rule in writing a story is not to make it end in "it was all just a dream". But this one says it could be a possibility. It would end with it all being revealed that this season was just a script Lexi pitched to her boss for a show. But her boss doesn't like the post-high school phase that we have come to see in season three, and it will end with her going back to season two only to begin re-writing the third season.

6. Rue's mum won't make it...

An unfortunate theory, as are most to be honest, is that Rue's mother won't make it. Unfortunately, Rue has placed her in a tricky spot, based on how Bishop was talking about Rue's mum in this season, her mum would most likely be in a hostage situation. And once Alamo find out that the operation Rue set up was all a ruse, she will be assassinated.
