What happens when you cast two of the internet’s favourite actors on opposite sides of the same story? If writer-director Henry Dunham has anything to say about it, the answer is Enemies — a tense, cat-and-mouse-style thriller backed by A24. Leading the charge are Jeremy Allen White and Austin Butler, a pairing that feels both inevitable and electric. Keep reading for everything we know about what will surely be an on-screen collision to remember.
Who is involved in Enemies?
Casting-wise, it's only Allen White and Butler who are confirmed for now. For Butler, Enemies marks another step into his darker era. Fresh from filming Ari Aster’s Eddington (premiering at Cannes this week), and preparing to star in Darren Aronofsky’s Caught Stealing, he's leaving behind the glean of roles like Elvis in favour of grittier roles.
Allen White, on the other end, is continuing to grow his impressive body of work. While the world waits for season four of The Bear, he’s stepping further into film, portraying Bruce Springsteen in Deliver Me From Nowhere, and entering the Star Wars universe as the voice of Rotta the Hutt in The Mandalorian and Grogu.
Behind the scenes, Dunham is joined by producers Ari Aster and Lars Knudsen of Square Peg, as well as A24 and Alejandro De Leon. Josh Bachove is also on board as an executive producer.
What is Enemies about?
Enemies positions Butler and White on opposing sides of the law: “a relentless detective and an infamous contract killer collide in a deadly game of cat and mouse,” the logline reads. If past A24 projects are any indication, we’re in for something smart, stylish, and psychologically sharp.
When will Enemies premiere?
No release date has been confirmed yet, but with production under way soon, anticipation is already high. We'll keep you updated as we know more.
