It's been a huge month for Emma D'Arcy's fans: first, we caught a glimpse of the actor in production for season three of House Of The Dragon and, now, they're heading to the big screen. Yep, D'Arcy has landed a role in Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s next feature film.
The project -- while still unnamed -- is currently shrouded in mystery, though it looks likely to take a sharp turn from the mythical worlds we're used to seeing D'Arcy cast in. If Iñárritu's CV is anything to go by, this time, they'll likely be thrust into a psychological drama of sorts, where an exploration of the human condition takes centre stage. Curious? Us too. Below, everything we know about Emma D'Arcy's next role.
Who else is cast in the film?
The work has some serious star power attached to it. Joining D'Arcy on camera is Tom Cruise, who recently wrapped the eighth installment of the Mission: Impossible franchise, which will premiere at Cannes later this year.
Speaking to Deadline, D'Arcy said, “I’m delighted to be working with such extraordinary and exacting artists as Alejandro and Tom. They are the masters of their craft, and witnessing them in combination has been a privilege.”
Also cast in the project is Anatomy of a Fall's Sandra Hüller, John Goodman, Jesse Plemons, Australian Sophie Wilde, Riz Ahmed, and Michael Stuhlbarg.
Behind the scenes, Iñárritu is joining forces with his Birdman co-writers Alexander Dinelaris and Nicolas Giacobone, along with Sabina Bierman.
What is the film about?
The synopsis is brief, simply sharing that the movie follows “the most powerful man in the world [who] embarks on a frantic mission to prove he is humanity’s saviour before the disaster he’s unleashed destroys everything.” If we had to guess, we'd say Cruise is perfectly placed to play the man in question, though we'll certainly be waiting with baited breath to see how D'Arcy fits into the story.
When will it premiere?
The project is slated for release on October 2, 2026. Bring on the press tour, we say.
