Autumn across Australia has been unseasonably warm, but the light is shifting regardless. There is a collective desire to swap out the ephemeral for the tactile. We are looking for pieces that carry a certain sculptural weight, or a sensory payoff that justifies their place on our shelves.
This month, the RUSSH editors are finding interest in the quiet intensity of Ron Mueck, the grounding pull of burgundy jute underfoot, and the low-glow of a well-placed lamp. Consider us a supporter of the ‘no big light’ rule.
From deep, whiskey-toned burl wood to the grit of a perfect hand wash and the craving for eggs and soldiers on a slow morning – these are the homewares taking up space in our homes and minds in April.

This month, I’m leaning into a balance of sculptural comfort and tactile detail. First up, I’m in dire need of a new couch, and this sofa from MCM House is exactly what I’m looking for. Underfoot, I’m grounding everything with this checkered rug from Double, a perfect way to bring warmth and structure into my living space while adding just the right amount of pattern. For lighting, this table lamp from King Living is ideal for softening any sharp edges and creating atmosphere wherever it lands. Beyond the home, I’ve been finding inspiration in the sculptural presence and quiet intensity of the Art Gallery of New South Wales’s Ron Mueck exhibition. So much so that I feel compelled to add the coffee table book on his work to my collection.

Those who know me know that I love to host, and serveware is always on my radar. Right now, the Dinosaur Designs Grand Earth Bowl is topping my list (I can already envisage the tossed salads and pasta mounds that could fill it). My current cutlery set has seen better days, so I’m manifesting a dream Sabre Paris Cutlery set as well. This Loliday W28 Vera Glass Sconce is a wish list item right now too, along with these Sarah Ellison Chromeo Armchairs and these DIPTYQUE La Forêt Rêve Scented Matches. Maybe even an artwork from Jessie Hartwig-Boutkan of Farbe Studios.

I’m now in a season of curated selection as I await our new home which should be built later this year. I’m very excited to gather some special finds over the next few months. The wishlist is ever-growing.
Firstly, Coco Republic has a dreamy selection of dining tables that would create the most wonderful epicentre to one's home. Their 3300mm Parquetry Rectangle Dining Table is on the top of my wishlist, in Vintage Tobacco with Montpellier Motif. Rachel Donath is always on my wishlist and I'm going to purchase the Allard Bench but still undecided on colour.
En Gold's Zephyr Chest of Drawers reminds of the warmth of whiskey and would be fabulous in any corner of my home. I plan on having parquetry flooring so I wont want to cover it up, but rugs will be a necessity to soften a couple of rooms. I'm a fan of ELLISON STUDIOS rugs, as well as Armadillo's offerings. I saw this Milk & Sugar Lake rug on an Instagram reel a while ago (@samscottbills) and have had it tucked away in my mind ever since.
I'd also adore the FLEUR STUDIOS Butter Console in Chocolate as an entry table. Delicious. I've been scrolling TheCCCollections' store on Etsy and all of their colour combinations are wonderful but I'm leaning towards the Oyster Willow Lampshade.
The last few items on my mind for home this month are all decor. I was kindly gifted the TipToe Bowl from FAZEEK's new Physique Collection – it's beautiful. This Neva Collection set from Everlasting Candle Co is a nice alternative to the traditional candle (it never burns down). Finally, I've loved Flamingo Estate for some time now and next up to try is their Jasmine Damask Rose Hand Soap and Jasmine Rose Rich Cream.

I’ve been shamelessly waiting for the new Aftonhaj collection to drop at Australian IKEAs. I am very, very into chrome pieces at the moment. The bowl has already sold out, which is the piece I’m eyeing off but I’m hoping to catch it on the restock. I’m looking to add some dark wood into my space too, potentially a new cabinet if I find the right one but in the meantime, this side table or this mirror from RJ Living are such easy pieces to add into a space that you’ve already furnished. I’ve been hunting for a new floor lamp for about a year and have had a couple of setbacks. But I’m now considering getting one of the paper lantern style ones, I think they’re so moody and chic. I love this one in particular. Otherwise, there is a chrome and linen piece from MCM House that I’ve got on a mood board. Finally, this month’s wishlist is rounded out with the Palo Santo candle from Le Labo, the ultimate autumn scent.

This is the time of year where I start to fantasise about hibernating and wanting to update all my soft furnishing with heavier fabrics. I have to confess that the mornings have been a little slower since the clocks changed so I’d love some assistance from this espresso machine to get myself going… Although if I can stay in bed a little longer I would love to be wrapped in this Willow Nutmeg quilt from Cultiver, or perhaps rugged up in this merino wool blanket.
Now we have moved into eggs and soldiers territory for breakfast, I’ve been coveting a pair of these completedworks egg cups. Naturally I need a soundtrack to hibernate too so I’d love a first pressing of The Cure’s Faith, if anyone has one, and maybe a bottle of Lark’s Ruby Abyss to pair it with.

This month, I’m coveting a new mirror to bring dimension to my lounge area, and this design by Rachel Donath has well and truly caught my eye. I’m also looking to refresh my reading nook with this side table from Casa Blanco, a gorgeous mohair blanket from Domo, and this lamp from MCM House. I’m always drawn to homewares that inject a sense of play, and this bathmat from Cold Picnic feels like the perfect finishing touch.
As the weather cools, my favourite thing to cook is a simple, comforting soup, and nothing makes the process more enjoyable than well-made cookware. This soup pot from Le Creuset is firmly at the top of my wish list.
I’m a firm believer in the power of thoughtful details to elevate interior spaces. Lo & Co’s Lucia door handles from the Al Dente collection, created in collaboration with Tali Roth and inspired by handmade pasta shapes, are an effortless way to elevate a kitchen without committing to a major overhaul.

I’ve been scrolling homewares a lot recently - Instagram, Pinterest, 1stDibs and a few other (not-so-tangible) inspiration spots. Some special finds include this 7-piece modular lounge from Azotea, a Mexico-based studio specialising in upcycling and restoring. I was also very taken by these Wood St Lamps currently exhibiting at Oigall Projects in Melbourne - the large-scale mixed with archival fabric make them very striking.
Currently I'm missing a space to display my book collection, so I would love to purchase a metal tower like this one in Burgundy. I’m also looking for a warming candle scent for the incoming cool months - I’m considering splurging on this one from Trudon. Lastly, I love these delicate glass plates from Gessen - the float colourway is heavenly.

I am actually in the process of moving back in after renovating most of my apartment, so homewares are all I think about. I just got some beautiful antique candlesticks on Etsy. I’m also eyeing glassware, specifically these Lobmeyr ones (I blame the Instagram algorithm for bringing them to my attention). In a more practical sense, I need curtains and want some soft roman ones from The Curtain Club for my kitchen and front door. Now that I have floorboards, I’m also hunting for rugs – a task that’s both overwhelming and seemingly expensive. Armadillo has some beautiful options. I love The Basilica for my living space, and the plush-looking Agra in Sage for the bedroom.
New home also equals a new scent. I am a diehard fan of Astier de Villatte incense, especially in the Opera Incense scent. And the world should know about the Flamingo Estate Roma Heirloom Tomato Candle. It smells like a Nancy Meyers movie. It’s also about time I upgrade my kitchen soap. I am such a diehard Aesop fan. The grits in the Reverence formula are just so sensorially perfect, in my opinion.

My wishlist this month is a good balance of practical and fun. First and foremost, I need a new wooden chopping board, and I love this one by TS makers. Great for food prep and serving. I love the idea of having a mix of beautiful glassware — they look so great on the table at a dinner party. So I want to add to my collection with these ones, which are hand-made in Italy.
My house has a strict ‘no big light’ rule, so we take lamps very seriously. This lamp from Near and Far is so beautiful and would make the perfect addition to my bedside table.
As it gets colder, my desire to be wrapped in a blanket at all times has returned, so I’m eyeing off this throw (which is fleece-lined) from Country Road. And there’s something about the cooler months that makes me want to have a candle burning 24/7, so I’m thinking of investing in this Diptyque candle in the biggest size.
