The best street style at Copenhagen Fashion Week SS27

If there is one fashion week we look forward to every season, it's Copenhagen. While Australians are shivering through the final stretch of winter, the Danish style set spills onto the street with a welcome dose of optimism, stepping out in the kind of joy-inducing colours and silhouettes that make getting dressed feel exciting again.

Long before the rest of us catch on, you can more or less guarantee the Danish capital has worn it first. And as Copenhagen Fashion Week gets underway this week, that philosophy is on full display.

Colour is central to the Copenhagen formula. Some have opted to let one bold colour do the talking – a cherry red funnel-neck jacket thrown over a summer dress, or a black pencil skirt punctuated by a cobalt blue t-shirt. Others have embraced unexpected colour pairings – if your wardrobe has slipped into an all-black uniform this winter, consider this your reminder that spring isn't far away.

Accessories, as always, are key. Just one day into the festivities and we've noticed head scarves and bandanas abound, plus pillbox hats and colourful scrunchies. Roomy tote bags have also proven popular, but practicality doesn't exclude personality, with plenty opting for creative textures or even novelty shapes in their bag of choice.

And for some styling inspiration we can incorporate into our wardrobes while we wait for summer to arrive, there's been several lessons in layering observed on Copenhagen's streets so far. Lightweight jackets are shrugged over crisp shirting, knits are tied effortlessly around the shoulders or waist – perfect for a summer's day that still threatens to get a little chilly as the sun dips.
