All hail the reboot gods: Clueless is officially heading back to our screens. In a cinematic landscape so fascinated by bringing back icons of decades past, it was only a matter of time before Cher Horowitz, her scathing one-liners, and her epic wardrobe received a remake. And what better way to do it than in a sequel-style television series? Even better, Alicia Silverstone — ie, the actress responsible for bringing this iconic character to life — is on board for the next chapter. Below, everything you need to know about the Clueless series sequel.
Who is invovled in the Clueless series?
As mentioned, Silverstone has not only given her blessing for the Clueless sequel, but is on board to act in it. Nearly thirty years since she stepped into Cher's yellow plaid Jean Paul Gaultier skirt suit, and it's confirmed that the actress will not only star, but executive produce the series. At this stage, Silverstone is the only OG cast member who is confirmed to return, but we're obviously hoping that Paul Rudd, Stacey Dash, Donald Faison, Breckin Meyer, Elisa Donovan, Justin Walker, Jeremy Sisto, and Wallace Shawn follow suit.
Behind the scenes, the series is being produced by icons of the television world, Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, who created Gossip Girl and The OC, no less. In other words, the series is in very safe hands. The original film's writer and director, Amy Heckerling, is also on board to produce.
What will it be about?
Surprise surprise, the plot details are being kept pretty tightly under wraps. As a follow-up to the original film, we'd love to see Cher and Dionne all grown up — perhaps with Cher trying to navigate the corporate world with the same well-meaning but often misguided attempts to "improve" the lives of those around her (and major AI-advancements to assist in planning her work 'fits), and Dionne, naturally, running her own empire. Or maybe we'll get reacquainted with the duo as mums (or aunts) to Gen Z teens who are navigating the halls of Bronson Alcott High through a whole new lens. Whatever the story line, we're absolutely seated.
When will the Clueless series air?
