In partnership with Chaumet
Taste is often instinctive. A pull towards a particular colour, a certain texture, the unexpected combination that shouldn’t quite work but somehow does. It reveals itself in what we choose to wear, what we collect, and in the objects we return to simply because they give us pleasure.
For the September Let Taste Live issue of RUSSH, Chaumet’s fine jewellery enters this conversation through a study in contrast. Diamonds, pearls and precious metals are laid against textiles alive with colour and pattern; the precision of the jeweller’s hand meeting the tactile irregularity of cloth. Removed from the body, each piece becomes an object in its own right – shape, proportion and material brought sharply into focus.
At the centre is Chaumet’s Joséphine universe, a collection informed by the Maison’s historic muse, Empress Joséphine, and translated through signatures of the tiara, aigrette and pear-shaped stone. The Joséphine Aigrette Impériale ring distils these codes into platinum and diamonds, its pear-shaped centre stone rising from a V-shaped silhouette. Nearby, the Joséphine Aigrette watch renders the same geometry in another register: stainless steel and brilliant-cut diamonds surrounding an engraved pink mother-of-pearl dial.
Elsewhere, the Joséphine Aigrette ring plays with softness, pairing the cool luminosity of white gold and brilliant-cut diamonds with graduated Akoya cultured pearls. Against patterned fabric, these materials take on new character. Pearls become punctuation; diamonds catch against saturated colour; familiar forms feel suddenly less precious, more playful.
Because taste is not necessarily about restraint, nor is it about excess. It is about knowing what draws the eye – and allowing yourself to follow it. Here, Chaumet makes the case for doing exactly that.
