How to wear chartreuse, fashion’s new favourite colour

chartreuse

Chartreuse has never been an easy colour. Sitting somewhere between green and yellow, it refuses to blend in or behave politely. It’s the kind of shade you notice immediately — and one you have to decide, quite quickly, whether you’re brave enough to wear. Which might explain why it’s suddenly everywhere.

Its return began on the Spring Summer 2026 runways, where chartreuse appeared as a considered accent. At Valentino, it surfaced in unexpected placements — across trousers, pencil skirts, and sheer, lace blouse.

At Alaïa, Creative Director Pieter Mulier was similarly restrained, deploying the shade across just three looks: each of them skirts, and each of them impossible to look away from. In other words, chartreuse doesn’t need excess to make an impact. Even when the wider palette of the season leaned towards softer greens and mossy tones, chartreuse stood apart, sharper, more confrontational, and more intentional.

Prada leaned into its slightly retro energy, threading chartreuse through shirtdresses and accessories that nodded to mid-century dressing while still feeling unmistakably modern.

Closer to home, at Beare Park, the colour appeared in brief flashes — a reminder that its power lies not in saturation, but in contrast.

Off the runway, that same restraint has carried into the way chartreuse is being worn now. It’s a colour that does the work for you, provided you let it: from a basic tank to a gown guaranteed to make you the chicest wedding guest, or a single accessory that shifts the tone of an outfit entirely.

Despite its reputation, chartreuse is more wearable than it first appears. Anchored by black, charcoal, or chocolate brown, it feels deliberate rather than overpowering. It also pairs surprisingly well with powdery pinks, copper tones, and soft metallics. But don't just let us tell you. See for yourself, with the chartreuse pieces we're eyeing off this season.
