Somehow it feels unbelievable to say that brat came out nearly two whole years ago. How is that even possible? Maybe because we've been living out the brat summer philosophy ever since through a subsequent Laneway headlining tour from Charli and later A24's The Moment mockumentary concert film. But here we are – properly and finally staring into the abyss of the end of the era. Luckily for us, Charli XCX is never one to leave us high and dry – we of course were blessed with her Wuthering Heights album soundtrack, and she's already confirmed her eight solo studio album, Music, Fashion, Film is just around the corner.
Here's absolutely everything we know so far...
The tracklist has dropped
Including the two lead singles we've already heard, there are 11 songs in total:

Yes, that last track has an unlikely feature from Canadian film director, screenwriter, producer and actor, David Cronenberg. In case you didn't know, he's a proponent for the body horror genre – so maybe we can expect something visceral, perhaps even gory, from song 11?
The album cover is a moment in itself
It features Velvet Underground‘s John Cale (who was a collaborator on the Wuthering Heights track 'House'), Marc Jacobs, and Martin Scorcese — in other words, three giants of the music, fashion, and film worlds respectively.
The album cover reveal was met with a chorus of praise when Charli posted it on Instagram, with everyone from Olivia Rodrigo (who commented "hell yeah") to Benito Skinner (writing "It's perfect") chiming in.

It's not a rock album — or is it?
The status of the album's genre is increasingly unclear, if we're honest. It started in a British Vogue interview, in Charli she said: “I think the dance floor is dead. So now we’re making rock music.”She also said you can expect to hear less of her signature autotune sound, revealing: “We were doing our version of analogue, which is so silly and funny."
But then she backtracked on that declaration, writing on Instagram in early May, "I never said i was making a rock album."
If we had to guess, we'd say the first statement was mostly in relation to the album's lead single, 'Rock Music', which was released at 2pm AEST on Friday 8 May.

When does it come out?

She's been teasing new music on Instagram for some time
And when we say Instagram, we mean her second account, @b.sides — yep, the same one she used to tease brat back in the day. This time, she shared a series of blac and white photos taken in Paris, along with the caption: “me alex [A. G. Cook] and finn [Finn Keane, FKA Easyfun] in paris @ rue boyer last year. spent 10 days recording here. aidan and alaska came. alex dj’d the mcqueen show. played some songs for some friends at the studio. went to the cinema. had lots of steak frites. felt really inspired.”

It's likely going to sound the opposite of brat
Brat’s co-writer and co-producer Finn Keane spoke to Billboard last year to say that the new album's direction could be intentionally very "anti-brat".
Keane said there was a desire from Charli to "do the complete opposite thing again, which is very in keeping with her ethos. Some of the conversations we’re having and music we’ve been playing around with the last couple of months have been completely the opposite [of brat]. I love that spirit. It’s the iconoclastic impulse to rebuild something completely different, to show that you actually could do this other thing.”
Keane then added: "I doubt that’ll stick, but that’s been a really interesting thing to observe and makes me very optimistic and excited about [what’s next].”
When hinting at her own musical direction going forward, Charli last year told Rolling Stone that: "you can never really do the same thing twice and my next record will probably be a flop, which I’m down for to be honest.”
She's hosting listening parties in several countries
