From runways to red carpets, castlecore is set to take over in 2025

Fashion is no stranger to a redux, but the latest trend takes its cues from a little deeper in the history books. Castlecore is currently sweeping runways and the internet alike, with more and more of the fashion set turning towards whimsical, regal, and gothic inspired pieces. Kind of like if  A Court of Thorns and Roses was a fashion brand.

The trend, in large part, is owing to recent runways. Dior's 2025 Cruise collection was seriously castlecore-coded, transporting us to another fantastical era via tartan patterns, tactile velvets, and rich punk purple hues. Y/Project has also experimented with the aesthetic, adorning dresses with medieval-style hoods in delicately draped sheer fabric.

Similarly, Rabanne designer Julien Dossena has long been championing the kind of protective, chainmail pieces that might have reigned supreme in the actual medieval times. His Spring Summer 24 collection was awash with armour-like styles, from vests to noble headwear and veils.

Awards season has proven the trend has legs beyond the runway. Led by Chappell Roan — who arrived at last year's VMAs with a sword and cape, before changing into full-body armour for her performance — a host of celebrities have taken a liking to the castlecore aesthetic on the red carpet, from BLACKPINK's Lisa, to Taylor Swift, and Natalie Portman.

As always, it didn't take long before castlecore was seeping into our everyday wardrobes, with Pinterest predicting the aesthetic would shape much of 2025. While we might not be ducking to the shops in a chainmail hood and tartan gown, there are plenty of more subtle, wearable ways the trend has begun to take shape day to day. From dramatic silver jewellery to corsets and lace, here's how to style the castlecore aesthetic in 2025.
