The ‘Bridgerton’ director basically just confirmed a spin-off is in the works

Bridgerton

For three seasons now, we've fallen in love with the Bridgerton universe, and all the exquisite luxuries of the Regency era that come along with it. However, while we might be well-acquainted with the goings on of the Ton, we've been kept relatively separate from the staff who keep this world spinning. That is, until now.

In season four (which is just around the corner), Sophie Baek (played by Australia's own Yerin Ha) will shine a little more light on the goings on of the butlers, housekeepers, maids, and footmen. Baek, after all, is a resourceful maid who winds up at the masquerade ball — and later, with Benedict Bridgerton — largely by chance. But this new storyline has got fans of the franchise thinking: could a Bridgerton spin-off dedicated to the working class follow suit? Let's investigate.

The director said a spin-off is in the works

It's no longer just wishful thinking, as far as Bridgerton director and executive producer Tome Verica is concerned. According to Deadline, at the season four premiere, when Verica was asked if he had plans to expand the Bridgerton universe, his answer was a short "Yes."

Verica (sadly) didn't offer up much more information, but what he did say was this: “Queen Charlotte, we thoroughly enjoyed that experience. It was more of a smaller look at a particular love story that spanned over those episodes, and I think we kind of caught something that people really responded to,” he said. “So we are in talks of some other projects and hopefully, something, some news, something will be coming out at some point. Hopefully.”

What do we know about a potential Bridgeton  spin-off on the domestic staff’s lives?

While it's mostly speculative for now, after season four's change of pace, many are hopeful that there could be an entire spin-off into the Bridgerton servant class coming soon.

Speaking at the Bridgerton Season of Love fan event on February 14, 2025, Golda Rosheuvel (aka Queen Charlotte) said season four would be a "celebration" of the domestic staff's lives.

“It’s slightly different this year because we’re going downstairs,” she explained.

Showrunner Jess Brownell went into a little more detail, saying, “I feel like we spent the first three seasons really digging into the upstairs world and getting to know the rules of the ton. And so it felt right that after three seasons of doing that we could expand the world out and go downstairs.

What have fans said about a Bridgerton spin-off?

You only need to spend a few minutes online to know that there's definitely fan appetite for a Bridgerton spin-off of this kind.

Way back in 2022, one Reddit user wrote, "I’d love to see a spin-off with the downstairs staff. Bit like how it’s shown in Downton Abbey."

Others have echoed a similar sentiment, with one user writing, “Wouldn’t it be great to have a spin-off that was focused on the staff that keeps the ton afloat? I mean, they have lives and loves, too.”

For our part, we can't help but agree. So will a Bridgerton spin-off follow season four? We'll certainly be watching closely to find out...
