
If there's one thing we love more than good books, it's great adaptations. And 2025 is shaping up to be nothing short of a book lover’s dream, with a dazzling array of novels set to receive the film and television treatment.
In the wake of so many book-to-film adaptations hitting cinemas these last few months, 2025 is about to make your reading list come alive in ways you never expected. Every book adaptation heading for film or television this year, below.
1. Verity by Colleen Hoover
Release date: TBC
Colleen Hoover’s gripping psychological thriller Verity is officially making the leap from page to screen, and fans of the bestselling novel (the RUSSH team included) are eagerly anticipating its film adaptation. Dakota Johnson, Anne Hathaway, and Josh Hartnett are on board to lead the cast, as Lowen Ashleigh, and Verity and Jeremy Crawford, respectively. Without giving too much away, the story follows Lowen, a struggling writer who is hired by Jeremy to finish his wife Verity's latest mystery novel, after she suffers a life-altering injury. What she discovers in the process, however, is even more thrilling and suspenseful than the story she's been tasked to write.
2. Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë
Release date: 14 February 2026
We've witnessed Emerald Fennell, Margot Robbie, and Jacob Elordi make magic with Saltburn, and now the trio are back at it again, this time with the film adaptation of Emily Brontë's Wuthering Heights. Elordi and Robbie will bring Heathcliff and Cathy to life, with Robbie's production company, LuckyChap, also signed on to produce the film. Set on the isolated Yorkshire moors, the story of the intense and tragic relationship between Heathcliff and Catherine has captivated readers for generations. Fennell's adaptation promises to bring fresh intensity to the story, with her signature stunning visuals and a expert eye for the dark, passionate emotions that define the novel.
3. Margo's Got Money Troubles by Rufi Thorpe
Release date: TBC
In the land of television adaptations, Rufi Thorpe novel Margo’s Got Money Troubles is not far away, and there's an A-list cast on board to bring the story to life. The eight-episode series is set to stick closely to the plot of the novel that we all loved so much: As the child of a Hooters waitress and an ex-pro wrestler, Margo Millet's always known she’d have to make it on her own. Now an unemployed single mother in her early 20s, Margo is struggling to make ends meet, leading her to launch an OnlyFans account. When her father reenters her life, she starts incorporating his lessons from the pro wrestling world into her OnlyFans work, leading to unexpected success.” Elle Fanning is tapped to play Margo, while Michelle Pfeiffer will play her mum. Nicole Kidman is also cast, though details of her role are still under wraps.
4. I Know What You Did Last Summer by Lois Duncan

We just about lost our minds when Gabbriette was spotted in Sydney this summer. Now, we know why: the actress-turned-model is starring in a reboot of the hit 90s classic, I Know What You Did Last Summer. While you're probably familiar with the '90s equivalent, the story actually originated with Lois Duncan’s 1973 novel of the same, which chilled audiences for its tale of a group of friends being terrorised by a lone stalker. Also on board to star in the 2025 remake is Nicholas Chaves, Chase Sui Wonders, Lola Tung, and Madelyn Cline. An iconic assembly, if you ask us.
5. The Housemaid by Freida McFadden
Release date: 25 December 2025 on Netflix
The bestselling thriller The Housemaid by Frieda McFadden is set to make its way to the screen in 2025, bringing its intense suspense and shocking twists to a whole new medium. The novel follows the story of Millie, a down-on-her-luck woman who becomes a housemaid for a wealthy family, only to uncover dark secrets that put her in a dangerous position. The character will be brought to life by Sydney Sweeney, while Amanda Seyfried will pkay Nina, the wife of the Winchester family. Her husband, Andrew, is still yet to be cast. With its gripping plot and unpredictable characters, this is one film adaptation that promises to be just as thrilling as the book.

7. People We Meet On Vacation by Emily Henry
Release date: TBC
Netflix has snapped up Emily Henry's beloved novel, People We meet On Vacation, and we couldn't be happier about it. The classic romance follows unlikely best friends Poppy and Alex who, despite living in different cities, spend every summer holiday together. As you can probably predict, one summer, their bond is tested, when they realise they might actually be the perfect romantic match. Emily Bade has been cast as free-spirited Poppy, while Tom Blyth will play Alex. They'll be joined by an ensemble including Sarah Catherine Hook, Jameela Jamil, Lukas Gage, and Molly Shannon.
8. Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros
Release date: TBC
Naturally, we had to mention Fourth Wing. The BookTok favourite is finally heading for TV this year, and generating plenty of hype on its way there. The internet can't help but speculate at who will be cast in the much-loved series, with Australian actor Josh Heuston the current fan-favourite for the role of Xaden Riorson. While we don't have the answers, what we do know is that this will show will be big.
9. The Midnight Library by Matt Haig
Release date: TBC
Matt Haig’s beloved novel The Midnight Library is set to be adapted for film, bringing its poignant exploration of life’s infinite possibilities to the big screen. The story follows Nora Seed, a woman stuck in a limbo-like library where she can explore alternate versions of her life, offering a powerful meditation on regret, hope, and the choices that define us. The thought-provoking and at times deeply emotional story will be produced by StudioCanal, via their label, StudioCanal Stories, which focuses on book-to-screen adaptations. A match made in heaven, if you ask us.
10. The Seven Husbands Of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid
Release date: TBC
Following the success of Daisy Jones & The Six, another of Taylor Jenkins Reid's books is up for adaptation. The story follows the glamorous and enigmatic Hollywood icon Evelyn Hugo, who recounts the secret and scandalous details of her seven marriages to an up-and-coming reporter, Monique Grant. There's no word yet on who will be cast as the firecely ambitious and always glamorous Hugo (or her fellow starlet, Celia St. James) but, safe to say, the internet has some opinions. We'll be watching closely to see who lands the role.
11. Long Bright River by Liz Moore
Release date: 13 March 2025 on Stan
Amanda Seyfried leads the cast in a new series based on Liz Moore’s bestselling novel of the same name, portraying a Philadelphia police officer working in a neighborhood deeply affected by the opioid epidemic. As a string of murders rocks the community, her character, Mickey, begins to suspect that her own past may be entangled in the investigation. Nikki Toscano serves as showrunner and co-wrote the series alongside Cobb. Seyfried not only stars but also serves as an executive producer.
12. The Running Man by Stephen King
Release date: 7 November 2025
Glen Powell, Josh Brolin and Michael Cera lead the cast of Paramount’s upcoming film adaptation of Stephen King’s 1982 novella, directed by Edgar Wright. Originally published under King’s pseudonym Richard Bachman, the story takes place in a dystopian version of 2025 America, ruled by a totalitarian government that uses brutal game shows to keep the public distracted. At the centre is Ben Richards (played by Powell), who signs up for the nation's most infamous broadcast – a deadly competition where contestants are pursued by professional killers.
13. Micky 7 by Edward Ashton
Release date: out now
After the global success of Parasite, Academy Award-winning director Bong Joon Ho returns with Mickey 17, an adaptation of Edward Ashton’s novel Mickey7. The sci-fi film centres on a disposable worker on a distant colony tasked with high-risk missions that often result in death – only for him to be regenerated using advanced cloning technology. Bong unveiled the film’s first trailer at CinemaCon, calling it a story about “an ordinary man who ends up saving the world.” Robert Pattinson takes on the lead role.
14. Wicked: For Good by Gregory Maguire
Release date: 21 November 2025
The first instalment of Jon M. Chu’s cinematic take on Gregory Maguire’s 1995 novel hit theatres last year, but in 2025, the story continues with Wicked: For Good. Bringing back Ariana Grande as Glinda and Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, the second film will still loosely be inspired by Maguire’s Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West.
15. Frankenstein by Mary Shelley
Release date: November on Netflix
Jacob Elordi takes on the role of Frankenstein’s monster in Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming adaptation of Frankenstein for Netflix, inspired by Mary Shelley’s iconic novel. The film is also set to feature Mia Goth, Oscar Isaac, Christoph Waltz, and Felix Kammerer, with Isaac set to play the ambitious scientist Victor Frankenstein. This marks del Toro’s second feature with Netflix, following his Oscar-winning Pinocchio, which earned Best Animated Feature at the 2023 Academy Awards.
16. Deep Cuts by Holly Brickley
Release date: TBA
Austin Butler and Saoirse Ronan are set to lead the film adaptation of Deep Cuts, the debut novel by Holly Brickley released earlier this year. Set in the early 2000s, the story follows the evolving relationship between Percy Marks and Joe Morrow, whose connection is rooted in a shared love of music. Their bond is sparked one fateful night when Percy offers feedback on a song Joe has written. From there, a creative partnership unfolds – one that spans years, fuels their ambitions, and repeatedly challenges their sense of self. The adaptation, backed by A24, is reportedly being written and directed by Sean Durkin.
17. Sunrise on the Reaping by Suzanne Collins
Release date: 20 November 2026
The world of Panem is set to return in a new chapter of The Hunger Games, with Lionsgate adapting Suzanne Collins’ latest prequel, Sunrise on the Reaping. Set 24 years before Katniss Everdeen’s story begins, the film will centre on the 50th Hunger Games – also known as the Second Quarter Quell – where a young Haymitch Abernathy emerges as victor. The novel, released last week, explores the growing unrest in the districts and the psychological toll of survival. While casting is still under wraps, the film is slated for a 2026 release with franchise veteran Francis Lawrence expected to return as director.
