We hate to break it to you, amidst the chaos of retrogrades, there's another astrological phenomenon threatening to wreak havoc on much of 2025. Yep, Black Moon Lilith, as it's ominously called, is set to enter Scorpio imminently, and stay there for much of the year's remainder. But here's the real kicker: unlike the other planets we're so well acquainted with (Venus and it's love connotations, Mars and its assertiveness, etc.), Black Moon Lilith isn't actually a physical thing at all. Rather, it's an astrological placement, and one that's loaded with some very real implications indeed. Below, we're breaking down everything you need to know about 2025's Black Moon Lilith, and exactly what it means for you.
So, what is Black Moon Lilith?
As we've briefly touched on, Black Moon Lilith is not a planet or celestial body, but rather a powerful mathematical point in an astrological chart that represents our untamed, raw, and often hidden energies. Specifically speaking, Black Moon Lilith represents the farthest point of the Moon’s orbit around Earth, known as the 'lunar apogee'. For reference, as the moon continues its orbit, and nears closer to earth, it gives rise to Supermoons, also known as the 'lunar perigee'.
What does it actually mean?
For a better understanding of what it all means, we can look back to Jewish mythology, which saw Lilith depicted as the first wife of Adam (before Eve). According to this version of the story, Lilith was created from the same earth as Adam and was his equal. However, she then refused to be subservient to him and wanted to be treated as his equal, which led to conflict and, ultimately, her leaving the Garden of Eden and being replaced by Eve.
Her departure saw Lilith concretised as a figure associated with wildness and darker forces. She's typically seen as symbol of female independence, defiance, and sexuality which, unsurprisingly, made her a controversial figure in patriarchal traditions.
These days, in astrology, Lilith has retained these associations, embodying a fierce defiance against societal norms, particularly as it relates to femininity. It's also linked to the unconscious, and often represents the parts of ourselves that we repress or are uncomfortable with.
What to expect from Black Moon Lilith in Scorpio
Astrologically speaking, Lilith spends nine months traveling through each sign of the zodiac, before moving on and finding a home in the next. For much of this year, Black Moon Lilith is moving into Scorpio, effectively supercharging the themes of rebellion, empowerment, sexuality, and the struggle for personal freedom.
As you're probably already aware, Scorpio is considered one of the most enigmatic and intriguing signs in the zodiac, with their fierce strong will and penchant for vengeance. On a macro level, Black Moon Lilith in Scorpio is a good time to channel this feoricity and rally together for women's rights — a cause that's more relevant than ever in just about every corner of the globe.
Personally speaking, Black Moon Lilith in Scorpio is a time to break free from outdated structures, ideas, and systems that have been limiting you, whatever that means for you. Perhaps you finally end that toxic relationship, or maybe you're re-entering the job market?
