5 of the best ‘Stranger Things’ episodes to rewatch before Season 5 drops

It’s wild to think we’re just a couple of weeks away from clutching the long-awaited first batch of Stranger Things Season 5 episodes – the penultimate chapter of this nostalgia-soaked saga. How did we get here so fast? The Hawkins kids have grown up – Millie Bobby Brown is now married and a mum! – and rewatching those early seasons feels like opening a time capsule. One minute they’re wide-eyed little adventurers huddled around a D&D table, and the next, they’re adults closing out one of the most beloved shows of our generation.

If you haven't already been rewatching every season in feverish anticipation of this new content, then here are the best episodes on Netflix we think are worth spending a few evenings reminiscing on.

1. Chapter One: The Vanishing of Will Byers (Season 1, Episode 1)

Obviously we have to start at the very beginning. A pilot (or at least, a good one) should have all the best parts of the show already nailed down. This one in particular has an infectious charm, a sinister mystery at its centre and 80s nostalgia in spades.

2. Chapter Eight: The Mind Flayer (Season 2, Episode 8)

Every season has had a pretty spectacular finale, but season two's was where a new benchmark was set. There was horror, nail-biting close calls, a soaring score and gripping final moment for one of the season's faves. Vale Bob Newby!

3. Chapter Four: Dear Billy (Season 4, Episode 4)

No list of re-watchable episodes could be complete without Dear Billy. It's the episode that saw Kate Bush's 1985 song Running Up That Hill soar back to #1 in the charts across numerous countries including the UK and Australia. It's potentially one of the best episodes of all – a true television masterpiece. Sadie Sink in particular deserves a special mention for her performance in this one too.

4. Chapter Nine: The Piggyback (Season 4, Episode 9)

Who could forget the epic guitar solo from Eddie (Joseph Quinn) or the reunion of all reunions after a season of all our faves being apart? This one is a must-rewatch simply to see where things ended up at the finale of Season 4.

5. Chapter Three: Holly, Jolly (Season 1, Episode 3)

One of the most iconic episodes of the show, Holly Jolly is where Joyce paints letters on her wall and uses Christmas lights to communicate with Will in the Upside Down. She establishes a system of one blink for "yes" and two for "no," and later, he uses the lights to spell out "RUN". It's dark, it's inventive and has definitely gone down as a visual synonymous with the show ever since.
