Middle ground: The knee length skirts we’re shopping this spring

For several seasons now, skirts have occupied two extremes in the realm of hemlines. Micro-mini skirts have been firmly asserting their resurgence, harking back to the golden age of ’90s fashion. At the other end of the spectrum sits the maxi skirt, whether in silky, sweeping fabrics during the warmer months or something a little more luxurious when the temperature drops. But this spring, we’re making a case for the middle ground — yes, we’re talking about knee-length skirts.

Once considered overly prim and proper, or perhaps exclusive to the wardrobe of an office worker, knee length skirts have undergone something of a transformation. They can sit low at the hip, perhaps in some kind of sheer or lace-trimmed fabrication – perfect for sipping a cocktail somewhere sunny. Pair a simple black knee length skirt with a baby tee and some ballet flats and you've got the perfect errand-running outfit. Or, switch into a button up shirt and kitten heels for something that feels a little more desk-to-drinks appropriate. The appeal is partly this versatility: unlike a mini, there’s no need to build an entire outfit around keeping things balanced – a knee-length silhouette offers more room to play with proportions on top.

The runway has been making a compelling case for the silhouette. Most recently, Prada's spring summer 2027 show was an ode to the knee length skirt – in fact, every one of the collection’s 63 looks featured one.

At Miu Miu’s Spring Summer 2026 show, knee-length pencil skirts appeared alongside fitted shirts but managed to still feel playful – far removed from a traditional corporate uniform. The same season, Prada gave the knee length skirt a more unexpected treatment. Among the collection were knee-length skirts pieced together from different fabrics, with ruffles and contrasting textures adding a sense of eccentricity to the collection.

In other words, a knee length skirt might be the most versatile canvas when it comes to getting dressed this spring. Below, test the waters with the knee length skirts we're currently coveting.
