We all have our favourite comfort movies, but nothing quite compares to putting on your favourite comfort cooking show.
I don't even need to set the scene for you. Putting that show on is like being a child all over again, watching your mum cook your favourite meal as though it's complete sorcery. Some of my fondest memories are of turning on the TLC channel and discovering a whole new world, quite literally. Whether it was travelling alongside Anthony Bourdain or watching how Carlo's Bakery created their outrageous cakes on the other side of the world in New Jersey through Cake Boss, those shows transported me somewhere else entirely.
Today, watching them reminds me of my own childhood: wandering through the hawker centres of Singapore in search of the best Singapore noodles or Hainanese chicken you'll ever eat. These shows unlock something so visceral that you can almost taste and smell the memories all over again.
Shows like Barefoot Contessa and Martha Stewart's television specials are proof that great recipes transcend time and place. It's remarkable what food can do, and I believe that same power lives within our favourite comfort cooking shows.
Below, the RUSSH editors have gathered some of our all-time favourites. So get comfortable, hope for a rainy day, and settle in for the ultimate comfort watch.
