There's nothing quite like cosying up to a silky, soft cashmere jumper when the frosty weather truly starts to hit. But did you know that it's not just due to its exceptional softness that cashmere is so prized?

Cashmere is natural fibre obtained from the shedded coasts of cashmere, pashmina and other kinds of goats. The word is derived from an anglicisation of Kashmir, a region in the Himalayas where cashmere was originally sourced and woven. Cashmere is now produced in a number of different regions including China, Mongolia and Iran. There are even some smaller producers in Australia and New Zealand. Many of these goat herds (although not all) live nomadically and not inside pens of gated areas. As the goats are often free to roam, it means production rates are smaller and this fibre is harder to get than others farmed fibres like wool.

This more exclusive and limited production model does mean that cashmere pieces are often costed as investments, but we'd argue they're certainly worth it.
