If you're anything like the RUSSH team, you subscribe to the idea that breakfast has the power to make — or break — your day. Luckily for those of us in Sydney, our city knows a thing or two about mastering the art of the first meal of the day. Whether your taste leans sweet or savoury, there are plenty of cafés dotted across Sydney serving up classics like fresh avocado on crusty sourdough, and fluffy pancakes drenched in syrup and seasonal fruit. And, if you've exhausted the city's offering of Australian-style fare, there's also plenty of haunts serving up delicacies from other cultures, from Swedish to Japanese.
Below, whet your appetite with our guide to the best breakfast spots in Sydney. Thank us later.
Bills

Sydney-siders would consider it a crime to leave Bill's off this list. The late chef put Australian breakfast food on a global stage, and will forever be remembered for his classic, instantly-identifiable dishes, including fluffy ricotta hotcakes, divine corn fritters, and the creamiest scrambled eggs we've ever tasted.
Superfreak

A newer addition to Sydney's breakfast scene, this Marrickville eatery has quickly earned a cult following. The menu is simple, but delicious, spotlighting quirky takes on pared-back dishes, like the Morning Roll, which features jammy eggs, comte, Mayo, coriander and shallot, and the oat, rye and buckwheat porridge, which comes slathered in cultured butter, brown sugar and poached rhubarb.
Kaska

Kaska is somewhat of a Darlinghurst institution. While its known for an impeccable cup of coffee, you'll need some serious willpower to stop there. The breakfast menu ranges from fresh-baked pastries, to addictive brown butter and sesame scrambled eggs. Find a spot in the sun, devour, and enjoy.
Fika

While Australians are no doubt patriotic about their breakfast, we can admit that the Swedes know a thing or two about a satisfying morning meal. Take Fika, for example. The Manly cafe and bakery specialises in Swedish fare, from cinnamon buns (get there early for one fresh from the oven for a life-changing experience), to Skagen toast, featuring prawn, dill & lemon mayo mix with iceberg on sourdough.
Piña

Chances are, Piña has made its way onto your Instagram feed at one point or another. It should come as no surprise: not only is the food undeniably photogenic, but it tastes as good as it looks, too. You can play it safe with scrambled eggs or avocado toast, or think a little outside the box with a curry omelette or savoury sourdough pancake. Your only problem will be choosing just one dish.
Noon

Despite what the name might suggest, Noon is ideal for satisfying your breakfast cravings. You won't find anything overly inventive on the menu, but what they do serve is done to perfection. We're forever dreaming about the sourdough fruit toast served with goats cheese and honey, and the hash brown dusted with truffle and parmesan.
Cafe Monaka

Japan might be the hottest travel destination in 2025, but you don't have to board a plane to experience the country's cuisine. Cafe Monaka is one of the only spots in Sydney serving up authentic Japanese fare, and it's worth scheduling a visit. Located in Mona Vale, the bustling joint specialises in “Asagohan”, a Japanese style-breakfast that includes steamed rice, miso soup, grilled salmon marinated in shio-koji (fermented rice), edamame tamagoyaki (egg omelette), kobachi (seasoned vegetables), and tsukemono (pickles).
The Shop

Speak to any Bondi local and they'll likely rave to you about The Shop. If you ask us, few things hit the spot after a morning spent on the beach like a bacon and egg roll and an iced matcha. You'll just have to snag a table at the bustling Bondi location and see for yourself.
Cafe Cressida

A recent addition to Woolhara, Cafe Cressida comes courtesy of the team behind Ursula's so you know it's going to be good. The slightly more laid-back sister venue takes residence in the iconic blush-pink Queens Court, where a menu of simple, European-inspired food has quickly won over the locals. Bread by local baker Iggy's and the freshest of produce make this a go-to destination for breakfast food that hits the spot, every time.
Rushi Cafe

This Cronulla cafe puts a Japanese twist on Australian breakfast classics. Think: a miso egg sandwhich, complete with miso herb curried egg and cos lettuce, on the softest Japanese bread, and a raspberry coconut chia pudding topped with sweet nashi pear. There's also an expansive drinks menu, including matcha lattes that occasionally receive a seasonal twist.
Norma's Deli

Not strictly a breakfast institution, as soon as you step inside Norma's Deli in Manly, you'll understand the hype. The vast space is home to an equally expansive menu, which ranges from classics like a granola bowl, to Greek-inspired dishes like Taramasalata Toast and perfectly baked goods. You'll have to come again (and again) to try them all.
Agnes

Over in Marrickville you'll find Agnes, a neighbourhood cafe specialising in baked goods and exceptional coffee. Our pick? The house-made focaccia (plain, or as the base to one of their many sandwiches).
Omeio

Paddington locals love this Mediterranean deli — and who could blame them? There's a Greek twist to most of the dishes on offer, including a range of freshly-baked sweet treats, plus classics like avocado on toast and bacon and egg rolls. You can't leave without trying the frappé: a twist on the Greek classic, made with two shots of espresso and lots of ice.
Baker Bleu

If freshly baked bread is your thing, look no further. Nestled on the streets of Double Bay is famed cafe and bakery, Baker Bleu. The menu is simple, but everything is done to perfection. If you've got a sweet tooth, their classic croissant is one of the best in Sydney. Or, for something more heartier, you can't go past their sandwiches and bagels, made fresh all day.
Theeca

While you can stop by this Darlinghurst venue at any time of the day, their signature buttermilk pancakes are truly something to behold. If that doesn't take your fancy, there are plenty of other delicacies to suit every taste bud, with brunch on offer all day long.
AP Bakery

You've likely come across AP's outposts in Newtown, Surry Hills, and the CBD, but the thriving bakery has just added a new venue to the mix: AP Bread and Wine, in Darlinghurst. Here, you'll find all the makings of a delicious morning meal, including cakes, pastries, savoury bites and, of course, great coffee. After dark, there's also a dedicated drinks menu, with wines, cocktails, organic sodas, and craft digestifs on offer.
