Zendaya tapped to play ’60s music icon Ronnie Spector in A24’s ‘Be My Baby’

'Be My Baby' biopic

There's no rest for Zendaya. At least not when it comes to her film career. The actress has landed her next role, in none other than A24's Ronnie Spector biopic, Be My Baby. And it's far from the only project Zendaya has in the works: She's currently in Venice to film Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, and the long-awaited third season of Euphoria only recently got underway. There's also The Drama, opposite Robert Pattinson (set for release in 2026), Dune 3, Spiderman 4, and the next Shrek instalment. One thing's for sure, Law Roach is going to have his work cut out for him when it comes to juggling these press tour looks...

So, what do we know about this latest role? Below, all the important details on Be My Baby.

What is Be My Baby about?

The film tells the story of '60s music icon Ronnie Spector, who's best known for co-founding and leading the girl group, The Ronnettes. The plot is adapted from Spector's memoir, Be My Baby: How I Survived Mascara, Miniskirts, and Madness, or, My Life as a Fabulous Ronette, however, according to reports, we can expect the film to hone in on her relationship with music producer Phil Spector. The pair married in 1968 but Spector gave details of their tumultuous marriage in her autobiography, saying she was kept a prisoner in their home, slowly descending into alcoholism. In 2009, Phil Spector was sentenced to 19 years in prison for the murder of actress Lana Clarkson, and later died in 2021.

Who is involved in Be My Baby?

Ronnie Spector sadly died in 2021 following a brief battle with cancer in 2022 but, before that, was serving as an executive producer on the film, and had hand-picked Zendaya for the lead role. On board to direct is Oscar-winner Barry Jenkins, while A24, Marc Platt, Adam Siegel, Mark Itkin, Tom Shelly and Zendaya will co-produce the film.
