If you can believe it, Australian Fashion Week has arrived yet again. The beloved event is taking a slightly different form in 2026 — with a new home at Sydney's Museum of Contemporary Art. But one thing that hasn't changed is the week's ability to conjure the very best in street style from its attendees.
Unlike other fashion capitals of the world, Australians are only treated to fashion week once per year. It follows that the occasion begets showgoers to put their best foot forward, sartorially speaking. As anyone who has attended the event before will know, this is not always an entirely easy feat. Australian Fashion Week falls in early May, which means the temperatures can teeter anywhere from arctic (particularly where early-morning and late-night shows are concerned) to a bright and sunny 25 degrees. Often, as the 2026 schedule has already demonstrated, there's an unwelcome smattering of rain thrown in the mix too. If you find yourself sitting by the runway, you'll want to make sure you're adept at layering – sweaters, coats, scarves – simple pieces that you can add or subtract from your look, depending on the weather you find yourself battling.
We're four days into this year's festivities, and there's plenty to devour. The week began with a moving Welcome To Country at the MCA, followed by shows from Buluuy Mirri, Maticevski, Beare Park, Carla Zampatti, Courtney Zheng, ESSE, and many more. In other words, there's plenty going as models, editors, stylists, and industry insiders weaved through the MCA and beyond. And as RUSSH was on the ground capturing it all in real-time.
