HBO isn’t done with Westeros just yet – in fact, it’s simply looking in a new direction. After quietly shelving the long-rumoured Jon Snow spin-off, the network is reportedly shifting focus to a brand-new series centred on none other than Arya Stark from Game of Thrones. Here's what we know so far...
What will the spin-off be about?
Instead of revisiting the icy North, this new project would follow Arya after the events of the series finale, when she famously sailed off to find out “what’s west of Westeros.” The idea is touted to be less about a brooding aftermath and more of an adventure, with Arya stepping into unknown territories far beyond the maps fans are familiar with.
Will Maisie Williams return?
Yes, (thankfully – who else could do the role justice?) Maisie Williams is expected to return, which would make this the first live-action sequel to directly continue the story of a main character from the original show.

When will it be released?
Not for a while. The project is still in early days and hasn’t been officially greenlit, so it's likely that we won't begin to see this one on screen until at least 2027. With A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms arriving soon and House of the Dragon Season 3 continuing to flesh out the past, HBO seems committed to exploring every corner of this universe.
Why has HBO pivoted from the Jon Snow sequel to this one?
According to reports, the Jon Snow project struggled creatively, largely because its tone leaned heavily into trauma and bleak post-war reflection. HBO’s pivot suggests the studio wanted something lighter, faster and more exploratory. To help shape that vision, writer Quoc Dang Tran – best known for Drops of God – has been tapped to develop the series, bringing a fresh voice to the ever-expanding franchise.
