Moving between Parisian terraces, Marais galleries, and her Kenyan home, Anyier Anei is guided by quiet morning prayers, a deep-rooted devotion to family and only occasionally by a little caffeine. A Leo with a reflective streak, she dreams of perfecting her French, bike riding in the summer, and turning her lens on the beauty of South Sudan.
The first thing you should know about me is ... I am easy going and I have a reputation of dreaming big and following through on whatever I set out to achieve.
I’m currently living in … Paris.
My favourite thing to do here is ... Meet friends for coffee, drinks or meals in terraces. Bike riding in the summer. I also like dropping in and out of art galleries in the Marais and museums around the city.
But if I could be anywhere, I’d be … In Lamu, Kenya.
My star sign is … Leo.
It suits me because … I am confident, brave and a leader. I often approach situations with courage and an open mind.
My friends would describe me as … Bold, caring and a go-getter.
I am my most myself when … I am at home in Kenya, around my family and in nature.
My go-to coffee order is … I don’t like coffee. I drink it when I have early mornings or when I’m working, for the caffeine. My beverage of choice is a vanilla matcha, or a chai latte.
I like to start my day by … Praying and sitting in silence. After that, I freshen up, have some tea and set my intentions for the day.
And finish it with … Journaling in bed sometimes.
I would describe my personal style as … Pretty eclectic. It depends on the day and the occasion.
The most special piece in my wardrobe is … The ‘Milaya’ my Mother sent to me while shooting Couture.
The best advice I’ve been given is … Failure is not as intimidating as harbouring dreams you never act on.
The person who knows me best is … Myself.
Right now, I’m feeling inspired by … Honestly, Angelina Jolie. I love how she is so uncompromising in her activism and uses her platform to bring attention to important issues.
An album I’ve had on repeat is … Tyla+ by Tyla and Renaissance by Beyoncé.
A comfort film I love to rewatch is … Notting Hill.
A special moment in my career so far has been … Shooting my first feature film, Couture as a main character alongside very acclaimed actors.
But a dream I’m still yet to realise is … Photographing South Sudan, to share more of my beautiful culture with the world. And to speak French fluently.
When I get a week off, I’m headed to … South Sudan to see my Mother.
The future looks … On a personal level, the future looks full of promise; with love, success and life and I am here for it all.
