If you first met Mike Faist as Art Donaldson in Challengers, think again — before breaking out on screen, he was already a star on Broadway. And later this year, the Tony-nominated actor will return to the stage in a major Off-Broadway revival of Anna Christie, Eugene O’Neill’s classic American drama. Here's what you need to know — including when and where you can catch a glimpse of Faist in the flesh.

Who is involved?

This production brings together an impressive cast and creative team. Starring alongside Faist, best known for his Tony-nominated role in Dear Evan Hansen, as well as performances in Newsies and West Side Story, is Michelle Williams, the five-time Oscar nominee whose credits include The Fabelmans and Broadway’s Cabaret.

The revival is directed by Thomas Kail, the Tony Award-winning director behind Hamilton, with movement direction by Steven Hoggett, and original music by Succession composer Nicholas Britell. The production also features set design by Christine Jones and Bret Banakis, costumes by Paul Tazewell, lighting by Natasha Katz, and sound design by Nevin Steinberg. In other words, with this lineup, Anna Christie is shaping up to be one of the most talked-about theatre events of the season.

What is Anna Christie about?

Set in 1920s New York, Anna Christie follows a young woman with a complicated past who reconnects with her estranged father and falls for a rugged sailor in a dockside bar. It’s a story about identity, redemption, and the quiet fight to start over, and is best known for its sharp dialogue and emotionally rich characters.

Michelle Williams takes on the title role, while Faist plays Mat Burke, the Irish sailor whose life becomes tangled with hers.
