PSA: you can now eat Florence’s most famous sandwiches in Sydney

Florence's All’Antico Vinaio is opening a Sydney sandwich shop

In times like these – where getting on a plane for 24+ hours to Europe in search of your favourite gelati and pizza shop just isn't on the cards for you in 2026 – it's a godsend to hear that one of Florence's most famed laneway sandwich spots of more than 30 years is setting up shop right here in Sydney. Yes, All’Antico Vinaio from the city of Firenze now has a bonafide Aussie outpost. Here's everything you need to know...

Where is it?

Its first Aussie outpost will be located at Circular Quay – at 50 Pitt Street (near the corner of Pitt and Bridge streets).

When will it open?

The Sydney shop is set to open its doors on Friday 17 July.

It will be open daily from 10am until 10pm (yes, your late-night sandwich dreams are about to come true). We'd also prepare for a queues, given its massive popularity overseas – but these should move quick.

Can you eat in or is it takeaway only?

All’Antico Vinaio is strictly takeaway only – none of the locations (including the flagship shops in Florence, New York, and Rome) feature sit-down dining rooms or tables (though most locations offer a few rustic stools or standing ledges). Be prepared to take your sanga for a stroll to a neighbouring park bench, or down to Circular Quay to sit on the lawns.

Why is it so popular?

The legendary Florentine sandwich shop gained notoreity for its oversized, heavily-stuffed sandwiches made with fresh, high-quality Tuscan meats, cheeses, and artisanal spreads. It has a pretty viral social media presence on TikTok – as well as over on Instagram – where owner, Tommaso "Tommy" Mazzanti, shows all kind of behind the scenes and making-of videos.

All’Antico Vinaio  really exploded in popularity though after being named the #1 sandwich shop in the world on platforms like Tripadvisor – and began selling up to 10,000 sandwiches in a single weekend. From there, the brand has rapidly grown to over 50 locations worldwid.

The sandwiches themselves are made on freshly bread that is baked continuously on-site every few minutes and lightly brushed with olive oil right out of the oven. Some of their gourmet sandwich combos include truffle cream, pistachio cream, and high-quality local salumis.
