It's been more than a decade since we first became acquainted with Lena Dunham's Girls and, try as they might, no show has had quite the same cultural impact since. Girls gave us a portrait of womanhood in its early 20s that didn’t pretend to be aspirational — it just was. And now, in the strange in-between of adulthood and whatever comes after, a new show looks poised to pick up the baton: Adults.
Starring a cast of new-gen talent, Adults is the lo-fi portrait of growing up for those of us who came of age wanting to be Hannah, Jessa, Shoshanna, or Marnie (or, a mix of them all). Keep reading for everything we know so far.
Who is cast in Adults?
The series stars Malik Elassal alongside Lucy Freyer, Jack Innanen, Amita Rao, and Owen Thiele, who make up a group of twenty-somethings making their way in New York.
Off camera, Adults was created by comedian duo (and IRL couple) Ben Kronengold and Rebecca Shaw, who also serve as executive producers alongside Nick Kroll, Stefani Robinson, Sarah Naftalis, Jonathan Krisel, and Alicia Van Couvering.
What is Adults about?
In a setting that feels incredibly apt for those of us navigating the current cost of living crisis, the majority of Adults takes place in Samir’s childhood home, where the group are currently crashing. If Girls was about becoming, Adults is about the uncomfortable stretch that comes in your mid-to-late twenties of still becoming. Or, as the official logline reads: "The series puts a spotlight on the highs and lows of starting out in the adult world, whether these characters are trying to get ahead at work, navigating the healthcare system, hosting a dinner party, or dating in the age of Find My Friends."
When does Adults premiere?
There's actually not long to wait before this one hits our screens. Adults is slated to premiere on May 28, 2025, via Hulu, and Disney+ here in Australia. We'll keep you updated as we know more.
