Our first update on ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ season two is here

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms

Just weeks after its first season wrapped, the world of Westeros is already expanding once more. HBO has confirmed the first casting news for season two of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, signalling that the next chapter of the hit fantasy saga is firmly underway.

Actors Lucy Boynton, Babou Ceesay and Peter Mullan have joined the upcoming second season of the series, which is set decades before the events of Game of Thrones. Their casting marks the first major update for the show’s next instalment, which continues the adventures of hedge knight Ser Duncan the Tall and his young companion Egg.

Below, everything we know so far about A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season two.

Who has been cast in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season two?

The first confirmed additions to the season two cast are Boynton, Ceesay and Mullan.

Boynton will play Lady Rohanne, while Ceesay takes on the role of Ser Bennis and Mullan will appear as Ser Eustace Osgrey — characters who fans of Martin’s Dunk and Egg novellas will recognise from the storylines expected to be adapted next.

Boynton is best known for her performances in Bohemian Rhapsody and A Cruel Love: The Ruth Ellis Story. Ceesay previously appeared in Damilola and the upcoming Alien: Earth, while Mullan has built a long career across film and television, including a role in Ozark.

As for returning actors, they join stars Peter Claffey as Ser Duncan ‘Dunk’ the Tall and Dexter Sol Ansell as Egg — who viewers learned in the first season is actually Prince Aegon Targaryen.

What is A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2 about?

The series follows the unlikely partnership between a wandering knight and the young boy who becomes his squire.

Dunk, an earnest but inexperienced hedge knight, travels across Westeros searching for work. Along the way he is accompanied by Egg — a sharp-witted child who is secretly a member of the royal Targaryen family.

While HBO has yet to confirm the full storyline for season two, the newly announced characters strongly suggest that it will draw from Martin’s novella The Sworn Sword.

That story sees Dunk and Egg become entangled in a bitter dispute between neighbouring houses during a brutal drought in the Reach. The conflict centres on Ser Eustace Osgrey — now confirmed to be played by Mullan — and Lady Rohanne Webber.

When will season two be released?

Production on season two began in December, though HBO has not yet announced an official release date.
