Introducing ‘RUSSH Home’ issue one, guest edited by Tamsin Johnson

russh home issue one

Introducing issue one of RUSSH Home, a glimpse inside the spaces and internal worlds of creative minds within our global community who are uninterested in aesthetic conventions. The places we create and inhabit provide the greatest insight into the internal landscapes that inform design and our culture today.

A multi-disciplinary environment, RUSSH Home documents creativity through intimate and original content, for which RUSSH has become known. This first issue, edited by Tamsin Johnson, is the beginning of our conversation in the world of design, with much more to come.

“I was honoured to be asked to edit this launch edition of RUSSH Home," says Johnson. "I’ve always loved the magazine. I connect deeply with the writing and feel close to the subjects. It always introduces me to something new and while it continues to champion the new generation, the magazine you grow up with is always there as a comforting return."

The cover art – Untitled, (GB), 2015 – is by Daniel Boyd, and it is an honour to celebrate him in this first issue. His work holds a critical lens to colonial history, explores multiplicity within narratives, foregrounds Indigenous perspectives and interrogates blackness as a form of First Nations’ resistance.

Inside the issue, there is a multitude of architects, designers and creatives featured throughout, whether it be their words or their homes. Speaking with Tony Albert, Daniel Boyd discusses his current show, Treasure Island, and how it holds a critical lens to colonial history, while Sophie Edelstein talks with designer Lucy Folk about a celebration of Australia’s commune with nature from her Boreen Point home. We share intimate moments with designer Eny Lee Parker, multi-disciplinary artist Quentin Jones, model Alexandra Agoston and more in a series of profiles of friends of RUSSH.

In conversation with his tailor Tom Riley, artist Bill Henson speaks of the beauty of gardens, libraries and the impossibility of the Opera, as Instagram sensation Laila Gohar – better known as Laila Cooks – takes us to her Sotheby's Paris exhibition, while explaining her love of sharing a meal. Architect and designer, Elsewhere, Sophie Dries, and sculptor and architect Marc Leschelier discuss spaces and objects anew with friend and photographer, Adrien Mesko.
