Some people measure a year in album releases, in music festivals, in beauty drops or in restaurant openings. But for the cinephiles among us, a year is best measured by its movie releases.
While we still have a few months left of 2026, the new year is already shaping up to be a big one for cinema-goers like ourselves. We have Greta Gerwig's long-awaited adaptation of Narnia, plenty of new and cult horror flicks, some of literature's most iconic works being reimagined for the screen and even a video game making its way to the live-action silver screen.
For all the films that have confirmed 2027 release dates (and all the details you need to know about each, at a glance), read on...
1. Narnia: The Magician's Nephew
Dir. Greta Gerwig
Release date: 12 February 2027
Cast: Emma Mackey, Daniel Craig, Meryl Streep and Carey Mulligan
Gerwig making a big fantasy film is interesting enough on its own, but we're especially curious to see what she does with something this earnest in a post-Barbie world.
2. Pendulum
Dir. Mark Heyman
Release date: 5 March 2027
Cast: Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Phoebe Dynevor, Jacki Weaver
From the writer of Black Swan, this follows a couple – Dynevor and Gordon-Levitt – who join a New Mexico wellness retreat after a traumatic event.
3. The Thomas Crown Affair
Dir. Michael B. Jordan
Release date: 5 March 2027
Cast: Michael B. Jordan and Taylor Russell
Jordan directing and starring in a new version of a film already remade TWICE is an interesting move – but this reboot is particularly interesting as it reportedly reimagines Crown as an art thief returning stolen cultural artefacts to their rightful creators.
4. The Exorcist: Martyrs
Dir. Mike Flanagan
Release date: 12 March 2027
Cast: Scarlett Johansson, Hamish Linklater and Laurence Fishburne
Flanagan is following up a run of major horror projects with The Exorcist – a pretty compelling match, if you ask us. Especially for a filmmaker whose work is usually as interested in ideas of faith, grief and family as much as he's interested in things going bump in the night.
5. Wolf Creek: Legacy
Dir. Sean Lahiff
Release date: 18 March 2027
Cast: John Jarratt, Laura Gordon, Ditch Davey and Stacy Clausen
Jarratt returning as Mick Taylor gives this a direct link to one of Australian horror’s most recognisable villains.
6. The Legend of Zelda
Dir. Eiji Aonuma and Hidemaro Fujibayashi
Release date: 6 May 2027
Cast: Benjamin Evan Ainsworth and Bo Bragason
After decades of fans wondering what a live-action Hyrule could actually look like, we finally have an answer. And while we still mourn that Hunter Schafer wasn't cast as Zelda, we're excited to see what Bo and Ben bring to the table.
7. Anything But Ghosts
Dir. Curry Barker
Release date: 7 May 2027
Cast: Curry Barker, Cooper Tomlinson, Bryce Dallas Howard and Aaron Paul
After Obsession became one of 2026’s breakout horror hits, Barker is already back with a horror-comedy about two fake ghost hunters who accidentally find the real thing.
8. Beach Read
Dir. Yulin Kuang
Release date: 7 May 2027
Cast: Patrick Schwarzenegger, Phoebe Dynevor, Kevin Bacon and Andie McDowell
Kuang has adapted her own novel for the screen here – a story about two writers with completely different ideas about romance.
9. Paranormal Activity 8
Dir. Ian Tuason
Release date: 21 May 2027
Cast: Katie Featherston, Maya da Costa and Chloe Csengery
Whose childhood wasn't punctuated with the sheer terror of heading to the cinema for this found-footage franchise? Now it's back for an eighth (yes EIGHTH) installment, with Katie Featherston once again taking the reigns as our leading scream queen.
10. Possession
Dir. Parker Finn
Release date: 11 June 2027
Cast: Margaret Qualley, Callum Turner and Paul Dano
If you're not familiar with the infamous reputation of Żuławski’s 1981 original, a film that spent years attracting controversy and censorship before becoming a horror touchstone, then this is your chance to. Qually, Turner and Dano feel like an apt leading trio for this demon-possessed marriage breakdown in NYC.
11. Oceans 11 prequel
Dir. Bradley Cooper
Release date: 25 June 2027
Cast: Margot Robbie, Bradley Cooper, Wagner Moura and Monica Barbaro
While no Oceans film will truly feel right without Clooney, this as-yet-unnamed prequel directed and starred in by Bradley Cooper is likely to hit the mark. An all-star cast and hopefully some satisfying heists.
12. Shrek 5
Dir. Conrad Vernon and Walt Dohrn
Release date: 30 June 2027
Cast: Zendaya, Mike Myers and Marcello Hernandez
Our beloved Scottish ogre is back for a sequel – this time focussing on a new generation of green swamp monsters voiced by Zendaya (bonafide Shrek fan) and SNL fave Marcello Hernandez.
13. A Quiet Place Part III
Dir. John Krasinski
Release date: 30 July 2027

14. Get Lite
Dir. Teyana Taylor
Release date: 20 August 2027
Cast: Storm Reid, Ceyair Wright and Leslie Odom, Jr.
Teyana Taylor's directorial debut has an all-star African-American cast, led by Euphoria and The Last of Us breakout Storm Reid.
15. The Conjuring: First Communion
Dir. Rodrigue Huart
Release date: 10 September 2027
Cast: Garrett Wareing, Amanda Fix, Matthias Schweighöfer and Marta Kessler
The Conjuring franchise continues to go from strength to strength. This one is likely to be another knock-out prequel.
16. The Blair Witch Project
Dir.Dylan Clark

With Joshua Leonard and Michael C. Williams from the original officially returning to the project as executive producers, we're expecting big things.

The beloved book is getting a live-action adaptation at the very capable hands of Ridley Scott. We're excited to see Owen Cooper continue to add big credits to his IMDb listing, too.
18. 24 Jump Street
Dir. Rodney Rothman
Release date: 10 December 2027
Cast: Jonah Hill, Channing Tatum and Ice Cube
Channing may have only just pulled through his faux-finsta scandal, but we're hoping this film channels the belly-laugh comedy of the first. Anyone else still referencing Julia Rob-hurts... ?
19. The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum
Dir. Andy Serkis
Release date: 17 December 2027
Cast: Elijah Wood, Ian McKellen, Kate Winslet, Jamie Dornan, Anya Taylor-Joy and Leo Woodall
Another franchise that continues to see another day. Gollum actor Andy Serkis has taken matters into his own hands – and reunited part of the key cast alongside some new faces to Middle Earth.
20. The Housemaid's Secret
Dir. Paul Feig
Release date: 17 December 2027
Cast: Sydney Sweeney, Brittany Snow, Kirsten Dunst and Paul Anthony Kelly
The thriller's sequel has already got a set-in-stone release date for late 2027. We're excited to see Love Story's Paul Anthony Kelly take on the new role.
21. The Entertainment System is Down
Dir. Ruben Ostlund
Release date: TBC
Cast: Kirsten Dunst, Keanu Reeves, Daniel Brühl, Nicholas Braun
Triangle of Sadness director Ostlund has another satirical black comedy on his hands. Set on a long-haul flight where the entertainment system fails – and is there really any horror greater than that?
22. Deep Cuts
Dir. Sean Durkin
Release date: TBC

Our leading duo have already sparked dating rumours, so we know there will be some very real chemistry in this one. We're crossing our fingers for a killer soundtrack, too.
23. Flesh of the Gods

A neon-soaked vampire thriller set in 1980s Los Angeles? K-Stew across from Best Actor nominee Wagner Moura? We're sat.
24. The Masque of the Red Death
Dir. Charli Polinger

Another highly controversial horror film being remade for the 2020s. This one has a dream-girl cast of waif-y, doe-eyed women including Mikey Madison and Léa Seydoux.
25. Ally
Dir. Bong Joon Ho
Release date: likely first half of 2027
Cast: Bradley Cooper, Ayo Edebiri, Dave Bautista and Werner Herzog
Bong Joon Ho is always keeping us on our toes. One minute he's winning Best Picture at the Oscars with the impeccable thriller that was Parasite. The next he's releasing a satirical sci-fi starring an endlessly respawning Robert Pattinson. This time, he'll be debuting his first animated film. We're excited to see where it lands.
26. A Place in Hell
Dir. Chloe Domont
Release date: TBC
Cast: Andrew Scott, Daisy Edgar-Jones and Michelle Williams
You need only look at the cast list to know this one will be great. It's a thriller that follows a cutthroat criminal defense attorney whose ambitions are suddenly upended.
27. They Follow
Dir. David Robert Mitchell
Release date: TBC
Cast: Maika Monroe, Naomi Ackie and Justine Lupe
If you don't remember It Follows, then you clearly didn't have a sleepover in the years between 2014-2016. The horror flick starring Maika Monroe is getting a sequel. Watch if you dare.
28. The Bell Jar
Dir. Sarah Polley
Release date: TBC
Cast: Billie Eilish, Connor Storrie and Carey Mulligan
Sylvia Plath's famed novel is getting adapted for the first time since the late 70s. Billie Eilish has top billing for the first time. Connor Storrie and Carey Mulligan round out the cast.
