Thirty, flirty, and thriving: every actor we’d cast in the ‘Suddenly 30’ reboot

suddenly 30

I have to admit, news that Netflix has deemed Suddenly 30 ripe for a reboot has made me feel just a tiny bit old. It's also served as a friendly reminder that I am now closer to 30 than 13 — or in the words of Jenna Rink, "thirty, flirty, and thriving."

But a reboot means a fresh cast of faces to bring this classic story back to life, and we already know who will play the leads. Jennifer Garner ad Mark Ruffalo are passing their respective torches to Emily Bader (who we fell in love with in People We Meet on Vacation) and Logan Lerman, so this beloved story is in very good hands indeed. However, there are still question marks around some of the side characters. Who will take on our favourite villain, Lucy (or should we say, Tom-Tom)? What about the archetypal hottie Alex Carlson? And then there's Jenna's perennially stressed boss, Richard Kneeland... Suffice to say, there are plenty of characters yet to be cast.

So while we wait patiently for the official cast list to be announced, we thought we'd throw some ideas into the mix. The actors we're dreaming of seeing in the Suddenly 30 reboot, below.

Sarah Pidgeon as Lucy Wyman

Hear us out: we know Pidgeon is adept at the cool-fashion-girl trope, thanks to her portrayal of CBK in Love Story. We also know that she has a darker side, given her role in I Know What You Did Last Summer. Combine the two, and what do you get? A prime candidate for the role of Lucy Wyman, the snarky high school mean girl who Jenna finds herself working alongside as an adult at Poise.

Callum Turner as Alex Carlson

Look, if I woke up 10 years into the future and found out Callum Turner was my boyfriend, I wouldn't necessarily be annoyed. In Suddenly 30, Jenna's adult self is dating Alex Carlson, originally protrayed by actor Samuel Ball. He's a star hockey player, but ultimately doesn't have much going on in the brain department — and they definitely aren't compatible.

Steve Carrell Richard Kneeland

Eccentric, high energy, but always well-meaning are three adjectives we'd use to describe Jenna's boss, Richard. And is there anyone who better captures that vibe than Steve Carrell? He's funny (obviously), but can also master more earnest moments.

Alisha Boe as Wendy

Wendy is adult Matt's girlfriend, who we don't get to know too much, beyond the fact that she's an obstacle to Jenna and Matt reconnecting. What we do know, however, is that she's fairly glamorous, and has her life together. We could see Alisha Boe handling that character arc well.
