Joan Didion: The Center Will Not Hold

“I write entirely to find out what I’m thinking, what I’m looking at, what I see and what it means.” As famous in her work as she was enigmatic in her personal life, Joan Didion remains one of the most iconic writers in modern history. Directed by Didion’s nephew Griffin Dunne, a documentary of the poet, essayist and screenwriter’s life – Joan Didion: The Center Will Not Hold – will launch on Netflix on October 27.

Here we take it back to the documentary’s early days in the making, in which Dunne articulates why he felt compelled to create a film about the life and work of Didion: “I think they should see that a woman, so tiny and frail, is a lion.”
