Mr Liquor’s Dirty Italian Disco, Sydney

Disco never looked so good. The team behind Wollahra’s Pinbone and Kensington’s Good Luck Pinbone return with their latest venture – Mr Liquor’s Dirty Italian Disco. In collaboration with Merivale, the warehouse-style restaurant is exactly what its name implies – fun, unpretentious, and here for a good time.

Set up in the remains of an old drive-thru bottle shop in Mascot, the kitchen’s Italian-inspired menu (helmed by Mike Eggert and Jemma Whiteman) features classic dishes with welcome Pinbone flourishes – think fried sardines in a sardine aioli, house-made ’Nduja (best slathered on chunks of bread with whipped butter), a braised lamb gnochetti that more than warrants a second serving and a strawberry swirl soft serve with pinenut brittle that conjurs the best kind of culinary nostalgia.

Paying homage to the building’s Bottle-O past-life, selecting a wine at Mr Liquor’s is decidedly interactive – enter the sliding cellar door and select yourself a red at room-temp, or don one of the 80s style ski jackets and choose a white from the walk-in fridge yourself. Throw in a couple of temporary tattoos and (if you're in with the always-welcoming restaurant manager Berri Eggert) a spot of karaoke, and you can see why the place is packed each night it’s open – from Wednesday to Sunday ’til late.
