The Byron at Byron Bay Resort & Spa, NSW

Babymoons are a must, I recently decided, after my stay at Byron Bay’s luxury eco resort The Byron at Byron Resort & Spa. It’s perfect for a ‘nowhere to go and nothing to do’-style holiday, which is all one can usually manage when one is seven months pregnant. Everything a couple with a low-key agenda could want is right there within the lush womb of a rainforest setting: incredible feasts by firelight, a day spa with ‘the lot’, private walkway to Byron’s famous Tallow beach, and a beautifully presented pool within hollering distance of the restaurant/bar if you’re partial to bikini-clad dining.

Stay …
If you can, book a deluxe suite at the end of one of their snaking forest walks – it’s worth it for the enormous bathtub alone, but comes complete with a full dining space and enclosed balconies should Byron’s famously fickle weather call for a lock-in.

See …
The lighthouse walk that overlooks the whole of Byron Bay and beyond. It’s a cliché for a reason.

Taste …
The farmer’s market tour and weekly dinner at the Byron at Byron’s main restaurant is a true taste of the incredibly rich northern NSW landscape. Chatting with passionate providores and farmers about their homegrown, mostly-sustainable and organic produce, and then seeing it rendered on your plate by a master chef makes everything taste a million times better.

Insider tip …
Local drinking hole and restaurant, The Roadhouse, is a stone’s throw from the resort and has fast become a Byron institution, for good reason. The seasonal menu is tasty, honest and locally sourced, and the ‘medicinal’ cocktails infused with herbal tinctures and healing vibes make a post-holiday detox redundant.
