Destination / Wish You Were Here

Stockholm, Sweden

Go just before the real cold sets in. That way you enjoy the crispness in the air and have the freedom to walk around this beautiful city before it’s too cold but you can still have the benefit of seeing the Stockholm at it’s wintery best: candlelit windows, winter florals edging the doorways, sheepskin rugs on chairs by the fire. This city does winter well.

 See …
Södermalm – Cool, younger area with great cafes and vintage shops.
Östermalm – The main area of Stockholm – beautiful and traditional.
Moderna Museet – Walk across the Skeppsholmsbron to the beautiful and very little island of Svensksundsvägen to Stockholm’s museum of modern art. The permanent collection includes an impressive selection from Jackson Pollock, Max Ernst, Andy Warhol, Yves Klein, Salvador Dali, Olafur Eliasson and Robert Mapplethorpe among many, many others housed in a beautifully designed gallery space.
Rosendals Trädgård – See biodynamic farming practices first hand at this beautiful garden foundation where you can choose and hand pick your own bunch of flowers from the wild flower garden and walk freely amongst the wild gardens where tuberose literally fills the air. Sit under the apple trees for a picnic at the apple orchid or stop for lunch or the Swedish tradition of Fika at the renowned farmhouse cafe and woodfire bakery, where the practice is farm to fork. Look forward to the fresh harvest of vegetables, herbs, flowers and fruits from the gardens surrounding you. Afterwards, go for a walk to the Rosendal Palace to admire this serene and beautiful home where they change the flower arrangements of the garden every season.
Gamla stan – Only a short walk from Östermalm, visit the old town of Stockholm for the architecture and quaint streets.

At Miss Clara Hotel for a boutique experience in a restored Art Nouveau building with dark wood interiors and Scandinavian styling, or Ett Hem hotel – a converted private residence – for an ultra sumptuous take on homely.

Taste …
Flickorna Helin Voltaire Cafe, Djurgarden – Get cosy by the fire and order homemade soup with rye bread and dill cream cheese, choose ingredients to make your own smörgåsbord or from one of the many amazing fresh salads. Save room for dessert, though, because the house-made cakes are a must.
Cafe Pascal – Young Swedish creatives and the like gather here for breakfast, lunch and fika day-round. The best coffee in Stockholm.
Östermalms Saluhall – Make your own smörgåsbord at this 1880s food hall with individual food sellers. Shop typical Swedish fare such as cured fish, salmon and shrimp, pickled cucumbers and hard bread (or Knäckebröd) with öst (cheese).
