Fairgrounds Festival, Berry, NSW

Coastal vibes, rolling hills, green, green grass and the first of summer’s sunshine: Berry’s Fairgrounds Festival is among Australia’s most idyllic. After a successful debut outing in 2015, round two – running this Friday 2nd and Saturday 3rd of December – promises to be just as good, if not better, with a line up ranging from the underground to the iconic.

See …

If you’ve got the time, take the coastal route to Berry via the Sea Cliff Bridge, wind your window down and take into the ocean views. The weekend starts here. Once you get on down to the festival, the options are plenty. Don’t miss the legendary Rodriguez on Friday night, or Melbourne psych rockers King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard. Come Saturday, we’ll be taking in all we can – from Angel Olsen to Big Scary and Jagwar Ma.

Stay …

If you want to be near the action, camping is where it’s at. Flash Camp has your glamping needs sorted – think fresh linen and towels, plus private access to the Fairgrounds pool on Saturday morning. Or settle into Fairgrounds Rivercamp: waterside with preassembled tents, a five-minute shuttle ride away from the festival. And the living is easy.

Take …

Weather permitting, Fairgrounds isn’t a festival of the muddy mosh pit kind. Dress for sunshine and languishing on the grass – you can’t go wrong with an oversized blouse or a dress made for dancing – and pair with your favourite pair of R.M.s. A dose of sun protection via this wide-brimmed essential from Lack of Color, wire frames courtesy of Ray-Ban and SPF from Mecca Cosmetica, and you’re ready.

Taste …

Fairgrounds 2016 is bringing an expanded food offering via the likes of local favourites Flour Water Salt, Newtown-based Bovine & Swine Barbecue Co., Cuban Cantina, Juice Farm, Shiso Fine and many more. If you’re up for a sit-down dinner, look no further than Jervis Bay favourite Paperbark Camp’s pop-up restaurant. On your way in or out of town, it’s worth stopping in to The Burrows of Berry, Milkwood Bakery, Little Rae General Store and, of course, the Famous Berry Donut Van.

Shop …

The Fairgrounds markets and Record Fair – both running from 12 to 10.30pm on Saturday, will fulfil your vinyl, produce and bric-a-brac needs: just another way to wind down on a halcyon weekend escape.
