Dark Mofo with Tudor Watch, Hobart

With their new mantra, ‘Born to Dare’, Tudor Watch lured us to Dark Mofo, the winter festival that the people at MONA say “delves into centuries-old solstice rituals, exploring the links between ancient and contemporary mythology, humans and nature, religious and secular traditions, darkness and light, and birth, death and renewal.” New wonders, new horrors indeed. It’s something you need to experience yourself.

Stay …

In keeping with the theme the brand new MacQ1 Hotel is dimly lit and perhaps a little too inviting. Open your curtains to the harbour only when the sun rises to the sound of Siren Song, a sound work by Melbourne sound artist Byron J Scullin and curatorial team Supple Fox, played throughout the city from hundreds of speakers at dusk and dawn.

See …
We attended ‘Welcome Sranger’ a night moulded around an invitation into secret societies and reclaimed venues. There was a lot of art that was easy to option out of but some fascinating late night acts in the form of Pussy Riot, Bitch Diesel and Melbourne artist Spike Fcuk.

Take …
This is a winter festival so your warmest coat, Tudor watch (I love how the new Black Bay Chrono feels on the skin) and BEAR vitamins because they’ll be needed in the morning.

Taste …
Tudor hosted dinner at Franklin restaurant who served Bruny Island oysters to remember.
