Cape Cod, Massachusetts

The home of dollar oysters, buttery sand dunes and salmon-tinged sunsets, Cape Cod makes for an ideal long weekend getaway. Here, seafood shacks occupy the hook-shaped peninsula – sharing the glittering view with quintessential clapboard lodgings, artist-types, antique hunters and countless vacationing dogs and their sun-kissed owners.

Stay …
Eben House is what dreams are made of. Located on a quiet block just moments from the action of Commercial Street – Provincetown’s beating heart – and only a short walk to white sandy beaches, this modern boutique inn has the distinct feel of a family-run B&B without foregoing any of the luxuries of its larger counterparts. Charming, stylish, slightly offbeat and with hands down the most impressive complimentary breakfast I have ever encountered, Eben House is a must.

See …
Race Point Beach at sundown: a ritual of sorts – on this wide-stretching beach on the tip of the cape, locals and weekend trippers settle into foldout chairs for the twilight show.
The Pilgrim Monument: the tallest all-granite structure in the U.S., this mighty 77m monument rewards those who climb the hundred or so stairs and 60 such ramps with a postcard-worthy view overlooking Provincetown and beyond.

Take …
Days are best spent in little more than a bikini, a towel, sunglasses and a wide-brimmed hat. Keep it simple by packing light with multi-wear pieces in crisp white linens and light chiffons. For the late afternoon into the evening, I opted for lightweight cotton dresses such as Matin’s 70s French-inspired embroidered wrap dress, paired with a simple black sandal by ATP Atelier. And when it comes to beauty: just the bare essentials will do: waterproof mascara, lip balm and a spritz of pure fragrance oil. I like the Sophia Fragrance Oil by 1509. And, of course, a good book.

Taste …
It’s all about the seafood. Load up on zinc with a generous serve of oysters at Strangers & Saints in Provincetown. Ask for a table outside and you’re sure to enjoy some one of a kind people watching in this left of centre village. Next, head a few short minutes along Commercial Street, stopping at The Canteen for a lobster roll served hot with drawn butter, before docking at The Red Inn – a waterfront hotel with delicious food and cocktails served with a smile.
